Should I worry about a sudden BG rise?

Still fairly new to Diabetes, so forgive me if this is a common query. I'm T2.

Thanks to this website and the people on it (not the NHS advice) I have managed to get my BG down by following a LCHF diet. I do fluctuate, but am rarely over 7 for the most part. However, for the last couple of days I've been sitting at around 8.3 to 8.6, and no lower, and am not sure why. I have not eaten anything different, as I've learned a lot about what I can and can't eat and my daily routine is the same, etc. I have had a head cold for around five days and have eaten about half a packet of sugar free Halls sweets over the last two days. (?)

Does it happen that BG will run higher for a day or two for no apparent reason from time to time, or should I be worried by the sustained change?

There are lots of things that can cause this. A mild virus, additional stress, infection etc. I believe it is quite normal and will happen from time to time.

As Ant says all the above can cause BG's to rise as can worrying about the fact that your BG's are higher than normal! When it happens to me I specifically give up testing for at least one day then reintroduce with a last thing at night measurement at least two hours after eating and after a chill out session which normally involves a nice relaxing hot bath combined with a G&T.
