Should we start talking about “Low Fructose” instead of “Low Carb”……


Thank you for your comment, but I don't think I am mixed up, in so far as what I have written is consistent with the theory proposed in the video. Watch the video at 24 minutes citing the polyol pathway and a study done in 1984. The theory is put forward by Dr Gary Fettke and talks about endogenous fructose production. Whilst his theory may be bunkum, so may many other theories, this particular theory makes a lot of sense to me where he talks about a tenfold increase of the conversion of glucose to fructose in the presence of high insulin. There has to be some reason why carbohydrates are fine for some people and toxic to others - the concept that that is some function of some metabolic disordering within the body - if only we knew which makes sense to me. The concept that that would be insulin in the context of hyperinsulinaemia ( high levels of insulin ) being implicated in dozens of diseases makes that the most likely candidate. He views the study cited as indicative of that - I guess we won't know if he is right until other studies are done on the subject. For now my money is on him proving to be right.
