Hi,
Have a look at the information leaflet that comes with your Metformin.
I have some vague memories of it telling you to stop taking Metformin while fasting, or with stomach upset. You certainly don't want your delicate innards reacting to Metformin when you are already ill!
If you are feeling achey in all your joints, if may have been food poisoning? Sometimes the toxins released by the food poisoning bugs can cause inflammation. But then, sometimes anything that knocks our immune system can cause achey joints...
As for what to eat - like you, when ill, I always crave carby stuff like mash, toast, and easily digested veg soups and so on. And Ribena. Always Ribena! A hang over from being coddled with those foods when ill as a child.
But since I have been low carbing, I try (yeah, not always successfully!) to stick to stuff like home made chicken soup (check the carbs on an bought soups!), and the scrambled eggs that
@catinahat mentioned. The easiest way to make a mug of chicken soup is to pour boiling water onto half a good quality chicken stock cube, and then drop in some diced cooked chicken. Stir. Drink. You can add herbs, seasonings, cream, etc. if you want.
Bone broth (any variety) is said to be good for healing the lining of the gut, and I always have some around, either home made, or bought from Amazon. It is MUCH cheaper to make your own.
Restorative and nourishing, Bone Broth is everywhere these days- and understandably so! It's packed with age-defying collagen, more affordable than store-bought versions, and easy to make right at home in either your Instant Pot, slow cooker, or in a stockpot on the stove. Learn How to Make Beef...

Nowadays, I also have some effervescent multi vits and mins on hand (I use Prime 50, but there are many others around). I find that soluble vits are much easier to digest if my guts are kicking off, and the good ones are sugar free and pleasant tasting.
And if your gut upset was bad enough to basically depopulate your gut flora (as they gush out of you...) then you might want to ensure that you repopulate with good bacteria, because otherwise bad bacteria tend to rush in to recolonise the empty property. To do this, you can take pre/probiotics, eat fermented products such as kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, and eat live yog, kefir and those little pots of sugar like Actimel. Check the carbs on the latter!
I dissolve a berry flavoured effervescent multivit in half a cup of cold water, wait for it to fizz, then top up with plain kefir.
Voila! a berry flavoured milkshake, with a hint of fizz
