I've had intense pain after eating for the past 4 days and as a result I haven't ate very much. My blood sugar has been low today and getting lower, should I reduce my lantus tonight? I know the normal sick day rules but I haven't been throwing up or running a fever, I just don't want to eat and suffer more pain. Can't get to the doctor until Tuesday as they are closed for the bank holiday

Two questions ...
How bad is the pain ?

How low are you going ?

If your basal is at the correct level, then you should not be going too low. But more concerning is pain after eating, and it's possible you will need to seek advice before Tuesday, four days so far is a long time to have had it .

If you are going lower and eating less I would if it was me reduce my basal insulin.

I suffer from horrendous pains and tennis ball lumps travelling through my stomach if Ineat anything like bread, pasta or rice. I do not wish to have to eat gluten to have a coeliac test as I know that I cannot tolerate it so I don't need a diagnosis of gluten intolerance to stop my stomach reacting badly.

I have officially been told I have slow colonic transit. I suspect that because of this my stomach cannot process these wheat laden products well.. Not because of coeliac disease.

You do need to ensure you are drinking liquids and small amounts of food though as without it can throw stomachs in to spasms...

I hope you can get an appt with GP on Tuesday. Uf they refer you to a gastroenterologist do ask for a "shapes" test.
My gastro chap readily admitted to me that he thought I had IBS initially but because I am T1 he decided to do a shapes test... And this proved that I had a very slow working stomach... Which was causing higher bloods as the food fermented and chronic pains and horrendoys bowel problems.

I do hope you can get this resolved soon. Not nice to have pains..

The pain is bad, painkillers only just take the edge off. My basal is right for when I'm eating normally but this morning I was at 5.5 and by lunchtime without having ate anything it was at 4.6. I'll bring it down a little tonight and hope for the best.

Painkillers don't necessarily help a stomach in pain... In fact some such as cocodamol can make it worse....

Is the pain specific to an area? Have you considered appendicitis?

Was there sometimg you ate that could have started this pain?

Have you contacted 111 just to check out symptoms?

Ok, if the pain is that bad , I would suggest you call 111 to be on the safe side, rather than leave it until Tuesday. If you are not feeling like eating, and are a Type 1 , that in itself is a cause for concern as what you are experiencing is outside of the situations that the Sick Day Rules cover.

Best to check - it's only a phone call ;)
