cold weather
Feeling poxy for the first time since T1D a year ago. It's flu and generally I'll just go to bed and paracetamol it out
I've heard about sick day rules but have never bothered to read or find out about them. Grossly stupid I know
I've found some from Lanarkshire but they are silly scary and a bit worrying taking about ketones and testing for them every 2-4hrs.
Has anyone got a link to some simple/sensible/no nonsense site or any basic ideas? I've tried searching here but don't find any useful threads

Thanks, sniffling sue

Is this what you are looking for: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-and-illness.html

The Diabetes UK website is has an amazing diabetes reference library. You just have to remember to go to "Home" when you use Search to find something outside the Forum.

I hope your cold does not last too long. But remember to test more than usual and correct if necessary.
It is very common for BG to rise when we are ill as our bodies helpfully release extra glucose to give us the energy to fight the bugs.

Magic @helensaramay ................ forgot to go home. Knew there was stuff but couldn't get to it. Sniff, sniff, thanks

Thanks @helensaramay and @urbanracer for the link. I'm a bit concerned about the ketone thingy still and the emphasis that is put on this in the link.

Something that has always niggled me is ketosis and ketoacidosis. As far as I understand it, they're both part of the same continuum or have I got this wrong?
I thought that those eating low carb are trying to get into ketosis and I thought this was about around 3 I also thought that ketoacidosis was around 10 was worry time.
Have I got this wrong? Perhaps a new thread needed but I suppose that most people are chilled with this

Sorry, I can't help with ketosis.
To me, ketones are bad but they seem to only occur if I have high BG for a prolonged period which has never happened. Through regular testing and corrections, I seem to keep the ketones at bay.

As I understand it, ketones are an issue when mixed with high blood glucose numbers. Where the numbers are lower, they're considered either benign or as a result of nutritional ketosis, but if in doubt, the cann your diabetes team.

Of course, the foregoing is easy for me to spout as I'm not T1 and as such massively less at risk of DKA.

Here's a link to the source and some further reading.

Basically I agree with DCUKmod and helensaramay, having ketones with high blood glucose levels is bad, being in ketosis because of a low carb diet is OK.

Thanks @helensaramay I think nutritional ketosis is fine

@urbanracer thanks, I agree with you on nutritional ketosis but there has to be a link I would have thought. I just think the info about testing for ketones so often when sick is silly especially if you maintain normal BG testing. Back to bed, BG4.1
