I've never had to deal with this before but Thursday I started being unwell, sick, achey, hot/cold shivers etc. Throughout Thursday my bloods remained pretty stable. Then Friday it went crazy, bloods of up to 18 and it didn't matter how much insulin I took nothing would bring them down! Today I feel so much better other than a sore head but still can't get my blood down! I was 18.2 when I got up to took 6 units novorapid (correction dose 1:3 so 4 correction and 2 to cover breakfast) 2 hours later I'd only come down to 11.4! Breakfast was an ommlette which I have all the time and I know 2 units covers it and keeps me flat. I took another 2 correction dose and checked an hour and a half later and I've only come down to 10.5! Could this be related to the unwellness? Is there some sort of lag effect as it all gets out my system and I'll get back to normal soon? I'm so not used to this! Last couple weeks I've been doing great and steady with low doses of insulin! Any advice, tips, words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated!

Awesome ill have a read. Probably a little late now as I actually feel fine today but maybe I should follow for a day to get my blood back to normal. I didn't realise how complicated being ill was! All I was capable of doing on Thursday was sleeping never mind working out insulin requirements haha

If you do the DAFNE course they cover things like the Sick Day Rules on the course, but save the above to your favourites so that you have them handy if you get ill again.

When I saw my nurse on Wednesday (which is where I'm convinced I picked up a bug, sitting about a hospital with sick people!) She said that they are trialling there own in house version of dafne so rather than making newly diagnosed folk wait a year they get them on it straight away so I'm on the first 2 sessions running next month which should be interesting! Hoping I pick up lots of useful info and don't have to ask you guys as much stupid questions! :-)

As far as I am aware, no Sick Day rules exist for Type 1.5 as such, because management varies so much. The usual Type 1 rules wouldn't apply to those who are on a mixed insulin, for example.

Unless anyone knows differently ? :)
