Hello ,

l have had type 1 since 1993 and have suffered complications

l have had a biopsy and camera with no problems

everyday i get a pushing sensation in tummy and it is really sore when l go to loo and very gooey and soft

what is it i am miserable and very sore and never seem to get results from specialists

who can help me from this nightmare
 
hi megan, sorry to hear of your problem - it's obviously getting you down. make a pest of yourself at the docs, they will never chase you to sort it all out. the older i get the more i believe in those who shout loudest get help...

megan2002 - weezer is spot on, you will have to put some pressure on the medics to get more tests and hopefully find out whats wrong
In the meantime, try to eat as healthy as you possibly can, keep your bg levels on target and for gut problems in particular try to eat probiotics every day - thats live cultures either by making your own kefir, or live yoghurt or fermented vegetables or something like Yakult, probiotics are good for our insides and the immune system.

i take it from reading yr message that you have had a colonoscopy done. Have you had yr follow up appt with the gastroenterologist?

What type of diet are you eating?

Had endoscopy in december and biopsy which returned clear.

l never really feel hungry and always feel sick

My back is in really pain epecially through the night and have a serious urge to go to loo where l feel crippled to walk / move

My poo is so so sore to pass and very gooey and white mucus really sore

l don't eat much fruit and veg

l am miserable
 
megan - please go back to your doctor, ask for a second opinion or further investigation, you need help, what you are experiencing is not normal.

In the meantime do try and help yourself a little, do give probiotics a try, oh and drink pepermint tea, or even better peppermint with camomile tea, you can buy it in supermarkets or you could even try Colpermin, these will help relax the painful bowel spasms and cant for the life of me imagine that these remedies can be harmful to anyone unless they are allergic.
But as I have already said, you need more tests and a diagnosis from a medically qualified practitioner.

You say that you dont eat vegetables, ok, so what do you eat, what are your bg levels like?
 
My normal day is bowl of fruit and fibre for breakfast

3 bacon sandwiches - microwaved

potato croquettes sausage rolls for tea

rich tea biscuits or activia yogurts for snacks

l have been back and forward to gp and specialists

colliac was mentioned

i use a tens machine at night as every night I cannot sleep and dread it plus in so so much pain every day

going to the toilet is horrible very very sore
 
From the endoscopy that you had done, has it been confirmed that you do have coeliac disease? If it has, then you will need to follow a wheat (gluten) free diet. Gluten free bread, biscuits, crackers, pizza bases are all available on prescription. They can also be bought in supermarkets but tend to cost more money than foods that contain wheat. You will have to look on the nutrition labels on food to see whether wheat, barely rye etc is in the food that you want to buy.

If coeliac has been confirmed and you dont follow a gluten free diet, then yes you will have stomach ache, runny greasy pale poo and you will also start to develop anaemia. It will never get better unless you eat gluten free.
 
I haven't been told I am coelliac however there is definately something wrong.

What should i say to GP as getting the endoscopy was very difficult and it feels as if they think l am a hypocondriac.

My life feels poor as day and night is tough and never changes and the back pain is horrendous.

As soon as I wake i feel sick and stomach gut feels heavy and pressurised

my bs are normally good however sometimes go to 12 / 13 on bad day

this is tough

Ring up yr GP tomorrow morning and make an urgent appt to see him/her. Your bowel problems definately need a diagnosis from a gastro specialist at a hospital. I went to see my GP regarding a problem I had with my bowels. She felt my tummy for an obvious lumps and also examined by backside. She couldn't find anything really wrong but nevertheless felt that I should be referred to see a gastro specialist. I got an appt to see one within 3 weeks. He wasn't sure what was wrong and arranged for me to have a colonoscopy done and also blood tests. So you see... no one should feel as though they are being a nuisance. So many bowel problems are not being investigated early enough as many think that they just have IBS and buy over the counter meds at pharmacies. There can be many many causes of loose stools, diverticulis, coeliac disease, chrons,
polyps, cancer. Go back and see your gp and make some loud noises......Ask gp to do a test for vitamin D deficiency.

Until you have some more tests done at hospital, it will be impossible to figure out what is causing your symptoms.

Until you get a firm diagnosis as to what is the cause of your bowel problems dont eat bacon sandwiches, fruit and fibre and sausage rolls. The fibre and the fruit will make you go to the loo and the fat in the bacon and sausage rolls will cause havoc.
Try to keep your diet bland...........
 
What do you think I should eat that might help??

My problem is I am a poor eater and always eat the same type of food.
 
plain fish without the batter or breadcrumbs, chicken without the skin, plain pasta (gluten free), gluten free bread. There is too much fat in the bacon and sausage rolls so that will play havoc with loose bowels.
 
megan...coeliac disease, get doc to test you for it specifically - a friend of mine has just got her 3 yr old daughter a diagnosis of it after 2 years of trips to the docs, they fobbed her off each time, and she said her & her hubby kind of just got used to her saying her tummy hurt, she had pale poo & her tummy looked bloated often. finally the doc ran a blood test which confirmed coeliac. once she removed gluten from her daughters diet she was a completely different little girl. happy, pain free & thriving at last.

mid post i've just had a look at NHS website...says testing is recommended if type 1 diabetic. go and demand one!!

in the mean time try a gluten free diet as suggested by others, it might be a revelation (i hope it is, at least you could adapt your diet & start to feel better)
 
Hi there sorry to hear about your problems. Could Candida (Thrush) overgrowth be a possibility? It causes all kinds of gastrointestinal symptoms.I have suffered thrush infections everywhere since my diagnosis (mouth throat,athletes foot, down below) I have had it that often that I order my own treatments save a trip to the docs each time.One time I took a Canesten Oral Tab and the next day noticed that all the strange gurgling, bloating mucus in stools and pain I had in my stomach had gone,after a few months back came all the symptoms and I took another tablet and gone again.I am certainly not saying to self diagnose or medicate but it may be worth looking into this as no other cause has yet been found.There are tests they can do for Candida.Try Googling "Candida Overgrowth" to find out all the symptoms x
 
its not at all unheard of for the use of certain insulins to strangely coincide without all sorts of GI dysfunction (and other dysfunction, too), although curiously its always man-made insulins on that list, and analogues especially. if theres no reason not to, consider investigating swithching to porcine insulins for a bit, as its usage historically has never strangely coincided with dysfunctions of any sorts. in my experience, ive found that about 10 days after starting porcine, a decades worth of massive GI dysfunction will almost completely resolve (something that not a single professional could explain in 10yrs of poking/prodding/endoscopying, but they were just as happy not having to explain anything and still billing full rate).

i'd followed every suggestion posted above, and then some, and then some more, and not one thing made even the tiniest bit of difference, except changing insulins. well, thats not true -- by wasting forever on looking at every single other "it might be," i wasted years of good health, loads of $, etc etc etc so i guess that was a difference.



it sorta makes sense too, insulins causing, for all intents and purposes, its own brand of coeliac or crohns. throw a distinctly foreign protein at a body that is already immunogenically challenged, what should one expect to happen?
 
It sounds like you are constipated, the diet you described is not helping your symptons, you probably need to drink more fluids and as you dont seem to eat fruit or vegetables perhaps you could try in fruit or vegetable juice.
Also what springs to mind is as you have had diabetes for nearly 20 years this could be a type of neuropathy affecting the nerves in your gut.
I had similar symptons to yourself when I got to 16 years of Type 1 diabetes, so I can understand your feelings.

Did they help you?

I have been told it may be neuropathy and the vagus nerve
 
and of course my post was not to diminish the value of good diet, plenty of fluids daily, and all that --- common sense stuff.

however....

after visits to specialists and presumably your GP at least once or twice, biopsy, and endoscopy, wouldnt one expect -- and reasonably so -- that a simple and uncomplicated diagnosis of constipation could have already been made, no? especially as constipation is strictly a symptom, not an illness in & of itself...... one would hope it'd be a simpler diagnosis than would need biopsy/etc.


generally speaking, constipation (especially that which is caused in part by not drinking enough fluids) results in
stools (that) are usually hard, dry, small in size

i think it'd maybe be beneficial to mention what insulins you are using/have used, and for how long, and also what sorta dosages.
 
I take novarapid and lantus solostar

28 units novarapid morning

24 nr lunch

40 nr and 62 lantus evening

still same another bad day and night

i am now getting asked to get a job when I was told to leave my job last year due to health
