Sickle cell trait confounds HBA1c

The article suggests populations with the sickle cell trait (which in US is lot of African Americans) should have more traditional blood sugar tests in addition to HBA1c, be considered in the round.

Any British people with African or Asian heritage had any experience?

Yep, my previous GP was amazing. She tested FBG, glucose tolerence, HBA1c and blood hemoglobin and asked if there was sickle cell in my family.
