Hi all,
I've got a sickness bug and wondering if I should do anything other than just sit it out. I am type 1 but in honeymoon period so only usually take Levemir and low carb with the odd shot of Novorapid for more carb-heavy meals. My levels have been creeping up anyway - I think due to cutting down breastfeeding my son. I haven't eaten anything today and have gone from 6.4 first thing this morning up into the 7s. I took my Levemir as usual this morning.
I really don't feel like eating anything but have been sipping water. Should I try to eat or can I just leave it until I feel better? Friends have had the same bug and it seems to pass pretty quickly - better but drained the next day.
My one year old is trashing the house around me.

Keep as hydrated as possible, I had this last year and had to go to hospital for a drip, keep an eye on your levels, test for ketones and drink as much water as you can. I was advised to contact my diabetic nurse at times like this, perhaps you could give yours a ring?

I had the sickness bug last Thursday and I didn't eat anything and therefore didn't inject my meal time insulin. I skipped all my meals for the first day and didn't eat until tea time the next day. Even then I just ate small amounts for 2 or 3 days and I was okay

If ill and not eating, you should check for ketones...............even if your not on much insulin.........

there are different rules to deal with them if you do have some so its best to find out what rules your team use..........

DAFNE teaches you to test every 2 hours for ketones and if you have some:

you take 10% or 20% of your total previous daily dose, and this is on top of your meal time stuff, if your managing to eat.....

they really work..........

a lot of people don't have the faith and cant understand how they can take insulin with no food but still not go low.........

see what your team say....

get well soon........

Thanks all. I am feeling a bit better now. I've been testing and am back in the 5s. No ketones. I left a message for my diabetes team but they haven't got back. The little one has just had a long nap so I got my head down too.

Hopefully through the worst. Thanks again everyone.
