Side effect of sweeteners maybe?

Hi all just wondering about side effects of some sweeteners. I know that some have a laxative effect but do they all.
I made some blueberry scones and macaroons on Sunday. Both the recipes were from here. I've made the scones before but first time for the macaroons. With both I used xylitol. Also first time use of coconut oil for the macaroons. I've probably ate 3 of them since Sunday. Woke up this morning and it started. Sorry if tmi. On and off all day. Honestly how a body can hold this much waste has totally shocked me. I have ibs and on amitriptyline so I also have to take lactulose each day to keep things moving. Well I don't think I'm going to need that for a while.
Yesterday all I had was some smoked salmon, salad and 2 tiny new potatoes, blueberrys and cream. A zero mixed fruit drink. (Think it contained sucralose) Today 2 rashers of bacon. 2 coffees. It could just be a bug of course, but I daren't eat anything else.
Any advice on what I should drink to replace lost fluids etc. A few years back I was quite poorly after a stomach bug and my gp said I had to drink flat lemonade as I had gone hyperglycaemic or something and needed to replace the lost sugars.
Thanks
Julie

I've never had a problem with xylitol, but it's one of a group of sweeteners that can cause problems (I think).

Maybe start small and work up to larger portions?

My problem with things like sucralose, hermesitas, aspartame, etc. it that they make me feel weird and stop me sleeping.

I'm on erythritol nowadays. No ill effects whatsoever (so far).

Thanks brunneria I couldn't see it being the xylitol as I used in the last batch of scones and a few other desserts I made and no problems then. I'm not sure if I've had sucralose before though in bottled drinks but did yesterday. Also the coconut oil in the macaroons was new for me. I have 1 hermisita in my morning coffee or tea and I think aspartame is in coke zero and had no problems with these. Nothing keeps me awake fortunately. It's probably just a bug then, which would explain the 6.5 on my meter when I've had nothing to eat.
Thanks again
Julie
