I’m trying to figure out what made me have a stinging sensation in my throat and bad metallic and bitter taste in my mouth last week. I tried to rule out a few things, but then yesterday ended up with that or allergies. I have an appointment with my primary next week for something else. After I took a couple of Tums, the stinging went away and so did the bad taste. I haven’t had any heartburn or indigestion. Still, I made the mistake of drinking orange flavored Metamucil before bed for over a week. So silky of me. I think that brought it on.

Has anyone had anything like this before? I guess I’ll keep taking the Tums at night and not take the orange flavored Metamucil any longer.

Metamucil is psyllium husk which provides soluble fibre. It is recommended in the treatment of GERD
I have used Fybogel which is very similar, and it did irritate the throat a bit, but I took that to be the orange flavouring.

i have seen testimonials here of people who sprinkle psyllium husk on their breakfast usually some form of yoghurt and berries (rather than porridge or cereal)

I think the product is fine. It’s the citric acid it contains that causes concern. It seems that would be an issue.
