My blood this morning was 9 but after a cup of tea with these sweeteners it was 20???
I found they have lactose in the which hightens blood sugar! Is this true anyone else have this????

Hi djharg, sweeteners can be a bit of a minefield. If an ingredient ends in 'ose', 'ol', or 'in', often it will be a sugar. If in doubt, check the nutrition information per 100g. Sometimes you will see that despite being listed as 'suitable for diabetics,' the carbohydrate/sugar content is 90g per 100g or higher. There is one really strange exception to the rule. There is an alcohol sugar called Erythritol. Despite technically being a sugar, our bodies do not have the correct enzymes to digest it. Therefore, it passes through our body unchanged, and does not affect blood sugar.

Yes, just because something isn't actually sugar does NOT mean it's going to have a low carbohydrate value. You do need to be careful and both look at the nutritional content of ingredients, and often do a bit of research as well - as @Charles Robin said, it can be a minefield.

I use liquid stevia for sweetening my drinks, it's both low carb and low calorie, and is recommended as one of the best options for diabetics. It can sometimes have an unpleasant after taste though if you use in larger quantities.

How did it go with this, was it the sweetners, I have just started to use them and my blood are all over the place. Thanks - Chris.

Hi there,
This is a very old thread and the OP has not been on site for over two years. You may be better off starting a new thread.
