I've just been placed on simvastatin 40mg at night. It's only been a couple of days but I am concerned it is making my bg's a bit higher. Does anyone know if it can do this?

Does the patient info say that it might do, I'm not sure as I've not been on statins but ringing the pharmacy and asking the pharmacist might give you the answer.

Yes, cholesterol lowering drugs can raise bg levels.
I was prescribed Simvastatin, later Crestor, both affected my bg levels.

Great ! I can't win - either I worsen the retinopathy with high bg's, or I worsen it with high lipids. Or I just end up taking more and more insulin, which I was trying to cut down on as part of a low carb diet.

Do you know if they all do this WJ?

How high are we talking AC? In your first post you say it's only a ''bit higher'' which a small increase in insulin should surely cover.

You're right it is only a bit higher, I am trying to get to non diabetic levels ie 4-6 but it is at apx 7-8 in the morning now. I know not massive and I can up my basal a couple of units see if that sorts it, I'm just trying to have the minimum lantus i can at the mo so I can lose the last of my baby weight.
