am type 2 diabetic for over 30 years which is under control as is my cholesterol
have been taking 40 mg daily for years am wondering if this affecting my memory
as i seem to forget t things more these days am active 70 year old and wondering if I should stop this statin
 
My memory was badly affected by simvastatin. I stopped taking it and told my practice nurse who told my GP. She called me in and didn't quite ask me the name of the prime minister but might as well have. Weeks after coming off simvastatin, I felt great with more confidence and no memory problems.

You should discuss this with your gp and then decide if you should stop taking the statin.
 
I was diagnosed with Simvastatin almost 18 months ago. Am type 2 controlled by diet and exercise. Experienced severe muscle pains and my teeth have started to turn yellow despite cleaning at least twice a day. Spoke to my GP who reduced the dose to 20 mg per day and this helped for a while but the pains have started reappearing again. Don't know what is worse, the pains or the fear of having a heart attack or a stroke. I understand there are alternative statins that do not have the same side effects so will have to look into this.
 
It was suggested to me just this week that I should perhaps go onto Statins. Having reduced my level from 7.2 to 5.6 over 4 months with just a dietary change, he agreed to give me some more time. Thank heavens, as I've heard nothing but bad reports about statins.
