My Diabetic nurse has just put me on 100mg Sitagliptin daily.

My nurse is only in surgery 1 day per week and what was not made clear was whether the Siitagliptin should be taken in addition to the 320mg of Gliclizide & 3g of Metformin I already take each day.

Does antone have any ideas?

They can all be taken together and some people do. What was your last HbA1c as there must have been something to trigger a change in your meds?

Re: Sitagliptin & Glicazide

Hi. Yes, they can all be taken together (I'm on the same meds). My GP did warn me that I might need to reduce my Gliclazide to avoid a hypo but as the only reason I had Sitagliptin added to the other two was that my BS was too high there is little likelihood of me going hypo! The three meds work in different ways. Met reduces the bodies take-up of glucose, Glic stimulates whatever you have left of islet cells and Sitagliptin suppresses an enzyme that in turn suppresses insulin production too early. Met and Sitagliptin can't directly cause a hypo but Glic can if your pancreas is in a good state.

Thanks for the quick replies fellow Diabetics.

My average BS are 12 and I also need help to control my appetite & must lose weight.

Apparently Sitagliptin fits the bill.

Cheers,

Chris
