Hi, I am a type 1 and an avid skier. I usually solo ski - not best for a diabetic but never had a problem. I hope to ski either wb 10/1 or 17/1. Would like a room share to cut prices and possibly company on the slopes. I ski first to last lifts and will ski all pistes.
I am happy to go anywhere with plenty of pistes.

Hi cobbler, I can't help regarding a holiday share, but a quick question how do you cope with insulin and skiing, I'm also a type 1, but not sure how best to manage it on the slopes, do you reduce your bolus and increase carbs by 40-60g before skiing etc, any advice would be great, thanks

Hi Gopher, I basically carry on as normal. Usual insulin dosage and maybe slightly more carbs for breakfast. I find that my blood sugar holds up quite well when I ski and although I carry lots of high carb eats I do not usually need them. Testing BS can be awkward as the meters do not like getting cold and won't function til they are warmed up unless you can keep it very close to your body. (When I play golf I reduce my fast acting insulin dose by half and still have to take on extra carbs during the round). I have found that as I have become a better skier I use a lot less energy in getting round the slopes. When I have skied I have always managed to keep my blood sugars well within the normal range.

Cheers, I'll see how I get on so, enjoy your holiday
