Skin Breaking Under Toes

Every now and then I get skin breaks at the bottom of my little toes. It looks like a cut but it isn't. I dab surgical spirit on the area to help dry it up but it takes ages to heal over. I'm so anxious that it might get infected. Does anyone know of anything better to heal the break quicker than surgical spirit?

Cheers Val

Hi Val

I think dabbing with surgical spirit is good, it cleans the area but would also dry out the skin, making it more brittle and slowing down healing, try Norwegian Formula handcream, unscented and apply this after dabbing with the surgical spirit; my friend is a gardener and often ends up with painful tiny skin breaks and swears that this cream helps heal the cracks in no time. Many specific foot creams contain urea and I remember from one of your previous posts you were not so keen on using this.
Any of the really rich body butters from the Body Shop or Lush applied every evening before bed and then wearing socks will really leave your the skin on your tootsies nice and soft and supple and no more cracking, I used to suffer dreadful cracks on my feet, I do a lot of sports but since applying extra rich creams and wearing overnight socks I havent suffered like this in over 2 years. You can buy moisture spa socks from Avon I think, I got mine as a present once, I remember they were from Avon though.
Check your feet thoroughly every single day, if there is slightest deterioration or infection starting please seek medical advice immediately, dont even wait to the next day, I have had excellent bg control and yet I still ended up with a hell of an infection developing very quickly, I ended up having nurses coming in twice a day to give me injections and was on high doses of oral antibiotics too, and was put on bed rest or else....not nice!

Hope you heal fast.

All the best

Thanks for suggestions. I bought some savalon healing cream today thought I would try it. What do you think.

Cheers Val

I use aloe vea on any kind of wound or damaged skin. I also give my feet a once a week treatment. a good wash and a hardcore foot moisturiser. Got some Hydromol ointment from the doctors which also has anti bacterial propertiies.
