Hello All,

Hope you are all well.

Recently I have had some odd symptom’s with my skin.

My eyes feel dry and the skin between my fingers on my hand is very dry, my hands generally feel dry.

No matter how much cream I put on my hands, but never seems to clear up.

My feet seem OK between my toes, but my heels do seem a little dry as well.

My skin on the rest of my body just feels very sensitive it could be in my mind, but I just don’t feel right in my own skin, so to say.

I drink about 2 litres plus of water a day.

Is this something we as Type 2 diabetics just have to put up with??

My last HBa1C was 45 (6.3%), and was only done about 2 weeks ago, I am low carbing as well.

Just feel Odd.

Any ideas.

Cheers

I have exactly the same problems. I also get itchy! I am looking forwards to finding out the answer. I am using body lotion and Avon dry oil, that helps with the itchyness.

Hi Lucylocket61,

Not had them, since november 11 and was told there where normal.

Why do you ask, as what affect would / could this be having on my skin.

Cheers

When you consider that your skin is the largest organ in your body, it does happen that some complaints affect it. Is this something new because your HBA1c is not alarmingly high, in fact pretty good.
It could be that you are lacking in some vitamins, your thyroid may need testing, it could be because the previous weather meant putting the heating on and drying you out.
Try adding these foods to your diet. Avocados, nuts and seeds and using turkey and oily fish as a protein source.
If you find that even moisturising it daily does not improve it then I would speak to your G.P.

When i had kidney problems 2 years ago, one of the first symptoms was itchy skin, like I had tiny insects crawling under it.

HI catherinecherub,

My diet does have a lot of fat in it, and I do take a very good multi-vitamin and fish oil tablets as well, so I am rather confused..

Its all started at around christmas time and got slowly worse.

Hi Lucylocket61,

How is your skin now and what did you do to sort it.?

Cheers

I learned I had kidney stones and once they were removed my skin was fine.

I do have a dry skin problem on my hands at the moment, but I think I only need to change my soap.

This is interesting. Some time ago I did a post about itching (not the you know where kind), my skin was driving me nuts.

Although I have eczema and a lot of allergies this seemed different as there was no apparent reason for it! More recently I have made a connection between this itching and if I have eaten somethng that would make my bg's run high (I am unable to test to check). The itching now is mainly on my hands mostly in between the fingers and on the palms, I also have these welts that appear under the skin which is is horrible.

I try and cover the skin in cream, Aqueous Cream is my first choice as it is cheap and hypo-allergenic. It does seem to help a bit but I still have no idea why I should get such a strong reaction.
Perhaps buy a tub of Aqueous and use loads of it, it costs about £3 for a big tub.

EDIT-Have only recently started on Metformin one per day, diet only before that.
