Sleep - or lack of...

They do make you sweat in the summer and you may need to remove some bedding to compensate. In the winter months it's quite nice as the bed soon warms up in no time, overall they are worth the money!

I have a complete memory foam mattress which I have to say I have never felt hot or sweaty on at all whilst in use ? (Mainly :wink: ) Even in the height of summer and my flat can get very warm. I do use cotton sheets though.

I think maybe the quality is something to do with this, I spent a fair bit on my mattress. I would imagine the toppers could be the same. Don't quote me though.

Ahem, er, sorry, back to the mattresses.......! (I shan't comment on my respectability levels cos I don't like to lie to the police.) ANY-way, iHs, I don't know about the toppers but the mattress I bought has a full, zipped cover, which is removable and washable, it's breathable and the only time I get too hot is when I'm going hypo in bed. The thing about the memory foam technology is that it uses body heat to kind of 'sense' where the body is and that part of the mattress shrinks to fit under you, which is the good thing about them because you feel 'supported' (for obvious reasons therefore it says it's not recommended to use an electric blanket). I removed the whole mattress cover once to wash it, and I have to say doing it myself was like wrestling a lion (they really DO fit snugly) and I had a hypo taking it off and another one putting it back on again!! But, it's fab, you just stick it in the washing machine, it's a sure way to keep it clean and no need to worry about sweat! Plus you can just buy another one of the covers if things go really badly wrong or take it to a professional cleaner but I've had mine 5yrs with none of that bother. Over the summer I had my flat refurbished and part of that work was to get my bedroom floor made level so that I know have a really fantastic 'sleeping experience' on a flat floor with a fab mattress! Btw I think I chose to have the 15cm memory foam bit at the top rather than the thinner one, I thought in for a penny in for a pound and they were so cheap from this site that I didn't feel the need to go as cheap as possible.
 
Costco have some silent night 7 zone breathable memory foam mattresses in. I paid about £240 for my Kingsize one. Doubles are cheaper. Singles cheaper still.

Many big firms allow you to join at Costco as part of a group scheme - or if you are Self Employed take your VAT certificate or company account.

Still sleeping erractically I'm afraid! Can get to sleep ok - just not able to get back to sleep if I wake for a call of nature during the night grrrr.
 
This morning I have ordered a memory foam mattress topper after reading all your endorsements for this type of mattress

Cant wait to try it and see if I can finally get a good nights kip again having suffered back and leg pains due to arthritis of the lower back for so long.

The advertising blurb seems to tick all the right boxes.
Improved blood circulation
Provides full body support
Reduces back pain
Reduces muscle pain
Reduces nerve pressure pain
Improves sleeping posture
Relief for asthma suffers

Hope I will be able to report back that it has made a difference however small
 
Cannot remember the last time I had a full nights sleep.

Generally I wake 2-5 times a night and I am getting sick of it. I have had 2 new beds, a memory foam mattress topper but all have failed althought the topper helped a bit. In the end most nights I sleep sitting up from about midnight. The only time I get a good nights sleep is if I go to bed about 1am, then when I get up for work at 6am I actually feel like I have slept. Generally though if I go to bed at 10pm I end up sitting up “sleeping” from midnight. This has been going on now for at least 5 years……..in the last 3 months the wife has been complaining I am waking her at night, not by snoring but wheezing.

Just a bit of background on me I am a 41 year old 21stone male with T2 diabetes, I take 4 Metformin, 4 Glyclazide and 2 10ul of Byetta daily.

I would just love a nights sleep that last all night!
