I've been diabetic for 17 years and have always felt that I have never had as much energy as I did beforehand.

However, regular exercise naturally increases your metabolic rate & helps with general energy levels. I'm an intermittent exerciser & the more I do, the more energy I tend to have overall, but life conspires against me sometimes & I can go weeks without any structured exercise occasionally, plus I'm very adept at finding excuses not to do any :oops:

I go to bed by 10 on work days if I can (it takes me quite a while to get off to sleep), but I'm up before 6, so only get around 7 hours sleep at most (plus I wake up frequently during the night, always have it's not a diabetic thing).

I do think that diabetes however well controlled affects energy levels in general, so don't feel that you're alone. I know that I'm now in my 40s & not my early 20s as I was before diagnosis so cannot expect to be out partying all night these days, but I've never had much endurance since then.

If your sugars are not high there are several other things that cause the problems you are having
* Thyroid problems
* Anaemia (if you don't eat meat or have heavy bleeding - edit the bleeding bit probably won't apply to you as you are a man ..)
* Vitamin D deficiency (if you don't get outside much)
* Vitamin B12 deficiency (if you are taking metformin)

Go to your GP and get some blood tests done, although they don't seem to like doing the Vitamin D one (apparently it is expensive). I suffered for nearly 3 years before they worked out what was wrong with me.
