Sleepy

I believe that potatoes are different from other vegetables as people who do not like vegetables will usually eat potatoes in one way or another we love them and along with bread have always been our staple diet in the UK we grew up with them just as rice is in Asian countries and pasta is in Italy.

I like my Spud Lite low carb potatoes we get here in Australia, best thing that happened to me as a T2 to still be able to eat spuds.

We made a very nice potatoes salad with a some for yesterday, excellent stuff just as good as shop bought.

But back to topic, I was wondering whether anyone else gets sleepy after eating? today even after 10 hours sleep I ate ham and eggs for breakfast plus 1 slice of whole grain toast and was yawning with in an hour and napping shortly after...

Have you checked your glucose level when you feel sleepy?

For those of us who have been used to unusually high glucose level likely have developed brain insulin resistance over the years. This means that when we improve our glucose control, even with what appears to be normal glucose levels, eg 5.0-6.0 mmols, our brain don't get adequate fuel. Our brain have impaired glucose uptake. It usually take a while for our body to adapt and generate enough ketone bodies to provide for the fuel shortfall.

So in the meantime you may consider adding some virgin coconut oil to your meals and see if that helps.

Hi DavyG,
regarding your main question about feeling tiered after eating and being able to sleep for hours after food. I have a similar problem I feel fatigued virtually all the time. It did improve slightly when they increased my metformin, but I've always put it down to my depression and something I have learnt is that diabetes can go hand in hand with depression. However, another possibility is sleep apnoea or thyroid problems. If I was you I'd make an appointment with your GP and get checked out as it might not be the diabetes where you sleep so much. I'm not saying you have any of these things merely that it might be something else other than the diabetes going on.
Hope you get sorted soon.
Take care Maggie
