Hi all,

I'm Stevie 36 r old Tetraplegic (paralysed chest down limited arm function).

Yesterday I was around friends house he tested suger level out curiosity we did mine about 1 hour after eating full meal and sweet desert.

My result was 2.5, his 11.2 my partner 8.2.

I would expect be slightly up after food but mine at 2.5?

Past few weeks I have felt at times I might pass out but goes quick as it comes.

Any advice?

Kind Regards, Stevie

Are you diabetic? - if so, what meds? On insulin thats a hypo and will need treated by fast acting sugar (sugar, full fat coke, lucozade, dextro tabs, fresh OJ).If on oral meds then it suggests that they are too strong, and if insulin its too much

If you are not diabetic, its prob still a hypo but not dangerous for you and you will feel better if you just have something to eat.

However, might be reactive hypos where your body shoots up and down in response to high sugar/carb food

Advice would be, watch your diet more carefully, or adjust meds if you are on them

hya and welcome,
if you are feeling unwell plz go see your health care provider and let them check u over, let us know how u get on

In the event of a weird reading it pays to double check.

Off the top of my head do you suffer from gastroparesis or any similar condition? Maybe nerve damage affects your stomach emptying in which case you may get your BG going up significantly later? Or maybe as suggested you shot up rapidly and dropped equally rapidly.

Personally I'd do some more tests and see your doctor with the results, if this isn't a one-off. My late uncle spent 20 years in a chair but most of his damage was below the waist.

Sorry for the long delay in replying.

Thank you for your replies.

I have now been tested with the blood test and the glucose tolerance test, and it has confirmed I have type II diabetes, we are now playing the waiting game for the 3 months to see exactly how it is going to be managed.

I'm not going to ask for any advice unless somebody wants to give it because there is so much advice out there. I'm just confused by it all.

I suppose I'm lucky in one way because I do not have a sweet tooth.

It's no usually diabetes which causes hypos, but the medication. If you weren't on any medication, ask the doctor to check what caused it.

Hi Steve.

Have you tried testing your meter with the control solutions. This will tell you if your meter is at fault.

Ken.

Hey Stevie.

Sorry to hear you have another diagnosis, but at least you know what it is though.
I really would make a point of pestering my doctor to find out why your sugar level was high, Diabetes pretty much always causes high blood sugar, due to the fact we can't make or use the insulin to use the sugar.
If you have a low sugar reading, there may be something else going on too.
2.5 is low, very not normal low.

At that reading, i'm feeling wobbly, hot, shakey etc.

Teating the meter is a good idea, but make sure the doc explains to you w hy you have such a low sugar.

Good luck anyway.
