Slim Rice (Konjac)

Konjac is the same ingredient that forms the basis of zero noodles (and the Shirakiku noodles I buy from Amazon). These are great: just rinse them (they have a slight pong, being packed in water, but that disappears as soon as you rinse them); then use them cold in salads or pour some boiling water on them, drain and use in soups or any other way you would use noodles. The secret is that the carbohydrate in them comprises all soluble fibre, which is not absorbed by the gut, so has no effect on blood glucose. The link you sent refers to the making-you-feel-full effect as if it's a bit magical, but it's just that it provides some bulk without calories or carbs.

I don't read the Daily Mail, so I'm really glad you pointed out the article: I had to stop having rice (even wholemeal basmati) with my Friday night chilli, so I'll definitely give these a try! Thanks Drew.

Just had the Friday chilli with Eat Water Slim Rice from H & B. Not bad! Not quite like real rice because it's mainly water, so a bit slippery, but it was surprisingly al dente. Definitely better than chilli without rice. Just dunked it in boiling water and drained it - much easier than real rice.

If you threw in say some tumeric or stock, does this rice absorb it?

I suspect not, because it's already saturated with water, but it would be worth experimenting: maybe drain it, bung it in a pan, add some turmeric and heat. The instructions say you can stir-fry it. Let us know how it turns out if you try it.
