Hi

A recent letter for diabetes doc to GP describes me as a 'slow glycaor' , can anyone explain this term to me. Info to be found on the web is rather vague.

Oher results form the same bloods were

cholesterol 3.7
HDL 0.8
Triglyceride 7.20 !
Hb 15 ( what's this one too ? )

HbA1c not recorded in the letter norm is 4.6 - 5

Thanks in advance
Alistair

I haven't heard of a slow glycator but It's thought that there are high and low glycators.
Basically not all people with the same average glucose levels have the same HbA1cs. Some people are thought to be high glycators and some are low glycators. This means although they have the same average blood glucose,(as shown by day to day monitoring) the high glycator will have a much higher A1c than the low glycator.

If your specialist has said you are a low glycator it possibly means that your HbA1c level is lower than would be expected by your meter results.

hb stands for haemoglobin

Here's the best I could find
Persons with slow hemoglobin remanufacture would therefore be "high glycators" as compared to those whose hemoglobin "factories" are more productive and replace the cells at a faster rate.

Thanks for the reply Phoenix
