Slowly Progressing Type 1 Diabetes?

Hi,

My fasting glucose in the morning is in prediabetic range (100-110). It usually stays in low 100s no matter how long I fast. Highest I have seen is 106. So I got myself lab tested for A1C which came back as 5.2% . I got myself a glucometer to check my post meal numbers and to my surprise my post meal numbers drop below 100 after two hours. For example I wake up in the morning after 10 hours of fast and see my blood sugar as 100-105. Then I eat something like apple, chocolate cake , bread etc. and after two hours my blood sugar drops to 90. It usually stays around 90 whole day (tested two hours after any meal). I decided to do a test in which I ate 6 slices of pizza from pizza hut and check after two hours, the numbers were in 100-110 range which looked fairly normal to me. I also did a massive carb test by eating three McDonald's burgers, large fries and a large Oreo milk shake (overall it was close to 300 carbs in one sitting). I filled myself to the brim with mcdonalds (so much that I wasn't even able to move) and obviously it was digesting slowly as there was so much to digest. I started checking my blood sugar numbers and following were the results:
Two hours - 123 (took three readings, one was 135, other was 115 and one was 120, meter error is obvious)
Three hours - 125
Five hours - 120
Seven hours - 115
I stopped checking my blood glucose for few days after this and my recent tests are showing post meal numbers lower than fasting as mentioned before (fasting 100-110 and post meal around 90).
I really don't know why are the morning numbers in the prediabetic range whilst A1C and post prandial being in normal range.
I have read that liver dumping glucose in the morning hours can very well be the culprit but should it even affect non diabetics?
Also for the past three months I was following a very low carb diet (less than 30 carbs a day, I am aware of physiologic insulin resistance but can't really be sure about that, maybe it's the case as before low carb my fasting numbers were 80-90 whilst A1c being same 5.2%) because of strength training. I usually go for strength training in the morning which has helped me gain quite a few muscles. I also do running for 15 minutes every morning. I am a very athletic kind of person with less than 12% body fat so type 2 diabetes doesn't really fit into the equation considering my age (20) and build. I also have a health anxiety and I am living a fairly stressful live because of my blood sugar numbers in the morning. I can't convince my doctor to order an antibody testing as my numbers aren't that high . I don't have any family history of diabetes or other autoimmune conditions. Neither do I suffer from any autoimmune condition. Can anyone here tell me what a progressing type 1 diabetes looks like and could I be suffering from the same?

Hello @sugarcat

Welcome to the site.

Unfortunately conducting your own tests is not conclusive and can be wholly inaccurate - no one here can diagnose you, I would suggest seeing your GP and asking them to conduct tests if you believe you are developing diabetes.

I am interested to ask however what has created this concern do you have health anxiety or have other symptoms ?

Thanks for replying. I spoke to my GP about my blood test results. My GP wasn't concerned and labeled me as non-diabetic, he said A1C and post meal numbers are fine and non diabetic. But when doing some research online, I have found that fasting sugar over 100 means pre diabetes. And since I am thin and young, chances of T2 diabetes is slim so this made me worried about a possibility of developing type 1 diabetes at a slow rate.
I have health anxiety because I am planning to join military and poor health will close that door.
No symptoms though.

@sugarcat I think you've answered this one already in your last post, I'd stop worrying, concentrate on maintaining your fitness levels and making sure you are physically and mentally fit when you do sign up, best of luck with your career

I am trying to give up my worries. Just waiting for the day when my fasting will drop below 100. Thanks for motivating reply though.

fasting can cause the liver to do a glucose dump giving you a false 'high' - you body needs glucose to function and the liver dump mechanism is there to ensure you have enough energy to go out hunting and catch a meal. Maybe your body is doing just that? All your other tests and responses are normal - wish I could eat 300g of Maccy D's carbs and have those sort of numbers after!

Just thought Id emphasise to the OP that the same process happens in eveyone, its not a diabetes marker

Thanks @Boo1979 that is indeed true and something I forgot to mention

You might be wanting to work on your anxiety. Poor mental health will close that door as well...
Good luck, and forget about diabetes. Of course you could develop that, as everyone can, but right now you don't have it, so even if you had antibodies you wouldn't be treated.
Hope things will get better for you soon!

I am not getting the antibody test as I feel that it will create unnecessary anxiety if it comes back positive and even then it won't make it certain that I'll develop diabetes.

Thanks for replying. But shouldn't pancreas increase the insulin if liver dump increases the blood glucose level? I am not a doctor so don't really know if that is how it's supposed to be.

I'm no doctor either! but the fact you're not diabetic means those liver dumps do stay with in acceptable levels because your pancreas does respond with insulin. I'm not use to working in mg/dL but 100 equates to 5.6 mmol 106 (your max) to 5.9 which are all in normal range - for me and most T1ds a liver dump could see us in the 10mmol+ range (180mg/dL) quiet easily.

You currently have nothing to worry about diabetes wise.

I concur with you slip, also the Op is worrying unnecessarily which can cause anxiety and stress, so enjoy your life @sugarcat and make the most of each day and take care.
