I am a Type 2 Diabetic and use the LibraLink system for constant monitoring of my glucose levels which works extremely well. However I have seen several advertisements on social media showing smart watch technology measuring Blood Glucose thro the skin using infra red sensors which appears to good to be true. I follow lots of tech and use it daily but I haven’t seen any verification of these watches methodology or accuracy or any approval by FDA etc. Can someone tell me if these things are legitimate and does the principle of the system actually work.

I have seen quite a few posts here recently that attest to the fact that these watches appearing on social media feeds are mostly rubbish. You might be lucky and get one that works on you but you're most likely wasting your money.

I have been following the tech myself and there are several companies working on non-invasive glucose measurements. Both Apple and Samsung have filed patents but are yet to deliver anything to market. The major stumbling blocks seem to be FDA approval, CE marking and the fact that they work less well on dark skinned people than they do on lighter skinned folk which is problematic in clinical trials.

If you're interested in knowing more then take a look at these pages.

But don't get too excited!

I think you'll only be lucky if the way you manage your blood glucose happens to match the fake curve the watches produce. Somewhat like a stopped clock telling the right time twice a day.

I subscribe to Diabettech who have reviewed a few of these smart watches.
Diabettech has not be complementary about any of them with regards to accurately reading BG.
They all seem to be a waste of money.
