Smoker no more!!

Hello people.

I have a question re smoking.

I DID smoke a pipe, so it is hard to say how much. 600 gram per month.

I have now given up. Over night. I was simply bored with it and did not want to do it any more.

That was three months ago.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (I have had nephrogenic diabetes insipidus from birth, but that is another story (AND is it covered here? And if not WHY not?)), I take metaformin 2000Mg per day oraly.

Now, having given up smoking, may this have any "adverse" effects on my type 2?

Thanks for any help.

Ragnar.

Hi van Spreuth, welcome to the forum :-)

I just read on google about your condition, you poor thing, how did it affect you as a child, I have never heard of this condition before.

I would have thought that giving up smoking is a good thing to do and cannot imagine that giving up could have any adverse effects, although maybe initially stress symptoms because of withdrawal?

All the best

Karen

when I stopped (type 1) my metabolism change a lot. Had to check BGs a bit more. Ate more too and subsequently put on about a stone in weight.

Hi Ragnar and welcome to the forum. The answer to your "WHY not" question is very simple. This is not the type of forum where you can raise questions to a panel of medical professionals. The forum is about diabetes and all of us who use it are diabetics. If no-one has raised the topic before it is simply because you are first person on the forum to have suffered from it. But we would love to learn more and perhaps your experiences with it can help others.

Your other question about smoking is a simple one to answer. Smoking = earlier onset of diabetes ralated complications and heart disease, high risk of cancer. Not smoking = lower risk of complications, no longer smelling like a walking incinerator. Adverse effects = zero.

O.K. Well rather than tell here, because the title would then lead to people missing it, I will start a new topic.

Thanks for the answers and the welcome. :D

Nice to be here, wish none of us HAD to be.

Ragnar.
