Hi.

I'm so lucky to be going to the Maldives in a couple of weeks time.

We are flying via Dubai but that's just for a transfer.

What im asking is for suggestions of snacks to take for the flights and stay. I'm sure I'll have no problem getting hold of some but I do want to take some with me.

I've got some individual bags of popcorn and some 12g portion bags of nuts and seeds. I'd appreciate some other thoughts please.

Tia

Hi @4mum_ Maldives sounds lovely - my best recommendations for low carb options would be beef jerky, olives and nuts, i'm pretty sure to take anything on board you would have to have these pre-packed and unopened :)

What about some Mr Porky crispy strips? 102kcal and 0.1g carb for a 20g serving
I am very envious; my OH and I went to Baros in 2002, and had the holiday of a lifetime, but it does tend to spoil you for other places! Have a wonderful time!

Glucotabs almost mandatory, and a packet of plain bics as follow-up, something like sweet tea. Ryvita’s good too. Other than that, nuts, shapers bars, Aldi’s sugar-free sweets? Take spare insulin pens, needles, frio bag(s) to keep insulin cool, batteries for your test device if it runs on them, paracetamol - just in case, stugeron if you get seasick too. And have a wonderful time!!!! Hope you’ll be snorkelling a lot. An underwater camera’s a good idea for that, I think you can get ones that do a few meters. Oh yes, carbs and Cals and a small weighing machine so you can tot up the carb content of the meals too. I’m very envious! Give my regards to the clown fish and don’t touch the Titan trigger fish. It’s amazing but can be a bit irascible. Wish I were coming too!!!!!!

I wouldn't rely on nuts as they sometimes not allowed on flights due to passengers with allergies.

Didn't think of olives. Good call. Not so sure about the beef jerky I'm afraid.

Maldives was on our bucket list and last year was awful for us so we needed to do it.

Last Jan we lost 2 people to cancer. In Feb my daughter lost her friend, a single mum of an 8 yo. The dog got a heart condition in March. In April my youngest got married but the following day told me she wants nothing to do with us anymore. In May I got DKA and diagnosed. And so the year carried on like that.

We figured it's now or never to go!

Btw I'm not after sympathy as I know many others are worse off than me.

I'll have a look for some. I have moments with that sort of thing as prefer veggie food.

Yes this is a dream holiday so I hope our camping road trip in France in the summer will be just as much fun. Lol

I have Glucotabs. Everywhere I look lol. I'm going to take double of everything. I have frio wallets. Will get the paracetamol (cos him indoors will panic if I don't have any!!) And yes travel sickness for me as we have a 30min boat transfer to our island. I've bought full face snorkel masks for surface swimming. Had thought about the camera so need to hunt one down.

Thanks for the food ideas too!

@4mum_ Still giving you a hug though - have a fab time :)
Aww thank you. Made my eyes well up.

I'm sure we will. I intend to do ****** all lol.

I work 3 days as a Librarian in a secondary school and the other 2 mind my 2 1/2 year old grandaughter. Busy Busy!

Oooo, the boat ride to the island - it was wonderful when we did it! Hope you’re escorted by dolphins. I’m even more envious. I think you more than deserve this after the year you’ve had and hope it gives you a really good escape from it all!!!!
There are sooo many glorious fish to see! You won’t need more than a few cotton things to wear and wash out so if you have room for a pair of fins (flippers) too that’ll make snorkelling more pleasurable.

I'm very good at travelling light. Owl, my OH not So! I've put a possible pile of clothes together and have already taken 5 things off. Last year we had a 20kg bag between us for 2 weeks in Spain.

I did wonder about flippers. Ta.

Yes I admit we do need this. Perhaps me more so. It's tough when your child doesn't want to know you anymore. I won't go into details but the 4 girls were always close and good friends.and had a hapoy childhood. She has a first class joint degree and a fantastic job and I liken the bloke she married. There's nothing I can do. She has moved home and job so have no idea where she is.

So I have to get on with life as tough as it is.

Will get the paracetamol

I'd be very wary of what you take if you're going through Dubai.

Some paracetamol products also contain codeine.

The country's airline, Emirates, website says:

"Some drugs and medications that may be purchased over-the-counter in other countries are classified as controlled substances in the UAE and are illegal to possess. A person may be arrested and prosecuted if in possession of prescribed or over-the-counter medicines containing, for example, codeine or similar narcotic-like ingredients."

https://www.emirates.com/uk/english/before-you-fly/travel/banned-substances-in-the-uae.aspx

The list of banned substances is as long as your arm.

Another thought. Glucagon. Just in case. Show Your OH how to use it before you go. It’s a good insurance item (for you, not the travel insurance co.). Have a word with your GP about it? Still really envious!

I'll +1 the flippers (makes snorkelling so much better/easier), and I was going to say a 'rash' top but anything that will block the sun whilst you spend hours floating around with your face down in the snorkel and your back to the sun.

Small cheeses sealed in wax, meat rollups w/cheese. (I freeze a small portion of grapes, & use these as a 'natural cooler" for my snacks. They can't be confiscated by security.
