Hi all, my daughter is suffering from mid morning hypos. After a lot of changes to her insulin ration in a morning and the hypos still happening her nurse has suggested a 'free' 10 carb snack around 930 to see if it will keep her going till her lunch.

Just wondering what kind of things people eat as their snacks in these situations.

Many thanks

@Ellie's mum A digestive biscuit is 10g carbs, depending on brand :)

Again, depending on brand, a couple of cream crackers are also 10g.

Satsumas - small ones are about 5g, if you prefer a non-biscuity option.

I've also eaten dried fruit (the kiddie packs are often 10g depending on which one you choose)

I generally stick with a digestive or HobNob as they keep well and aren't too exciting (so you don't nibble at them too early or want to eat three more!)

Thank you. I was kinda thinking the fruit option (she used to have a very sweet tooth lol) but then we always have hobnobs in her bag for post hypos.

I've spent the last 2 months drumming it into her that carbs=insulin and to think carefully about her choices of snacks, guess that's kinda out the window now (well in a morning anyway!)

Just add a "usually" in there ;)

I often have carby snacks as snacks, if you see what I mean - for hunger not hypos. If you want fruit, then plums or apricots are good too - usually 2 or 3 is around 10g. A small apple can be too (like the tinier ones they aim at children). A ring of fresh pineapple - messy but yummy. A little box of raisins. Kiwi fruit, if she's able to stop to eat them properly - usually a couple of those, again depending on size.

You'll find what suits her and works best for her blood sugar :)

Little boxes of raisins or smarties are just under 10g carbs. Cow biscuits (malted milk) are around 6g.
