I have gestational diabetes, its very well controlled with diet.

I got up late this morning as I am now on holidays (normally up at 5am) and really fancied beans on toast, which I have had before but also ate half a punnet of grapes. Checked my sugars 2 hours later and they were 9.3!! Supposed to be under 7 two hours after food.

Now I feel like I have put my baby at risk :( I just don't know what to do, they have never been that high before and as I said, they are well controlled. If anyone can help put my mind at ease I would be very grateful

Hi,

Don't beat yourself up. Make sure that this is a one off, something we are all guilty of. One high reading is not that bad in the grand scheme of things. Your baby will be fine.

Make sure you keep hydrated, drink water and try and factor in some exercise, i.e. a walk.

Thank you for replying, I am just so gutted I let that happen when I have been controlling it so well for the last few weeks. My consultant said last week that he really couldn't have asked for better readings. I don't think he will be saying the same when I see him again though...grrr....such a fool. Well looks like I will be getting up early tomorrow and having breakfast.

Off for a walk now :)

The grapes are very high in sugar and possibly the cause of your spike. A safer fruit to indulge on is strawberries, but don't over do it. Enjoy your walk, it will help to bring your BG down :D

My sister had this when she was expecting my youngest niece, I can't imagine my sister (who runs, so therefore lives in, a pub) to have controlled herself that well & I can confirm my niece is as lively and as much trouble as her other kids were!

If only fruit could be labelled like other foods regarding diabetes .
Don't be harsh on yourself you know what that grapes are a no no . It's all trial and error for all of us . Be happy :D :D

I'm sure your baby will not be affected at all. This is just a perfectly understandable blip. Don't beat yourself up over it - and stop buying grapes! If they're not there - you can't eat them! Anyone in your household complains - well, it won't do them any harm to miss out until the baby is born!
