Hi,

Just wanted to know if anyone else suffers from as many different things as I do? I know that Diabetes goes hand in hand with so many other conditions, so I understand it’s common to have one or two other things but I just seem to have everything wrong with me! I’d just like to know if anyone else is in the same boat?

Plus if anyone has any treatment ideas; particularly alternative treatments and therapies; please let me know.

So I’m 22 and type 1 diabetic (diagnosed age 5) and I also have the following conditions, which I have included the age I was at diagnosis;

- Coeliac Disease (age 8)
- Under active thyroid (age 12)
- Migraines (age 16)
- Postural Hypotension (age 19)
- Bile Acid Malabsorption (age 19)
- Fibromyalgia (age 20)
- Osteoporosis (I’ve broken 5 bones in 6 months and currently still have a broken back) (age 22)
- Diabetic Retinopathy - stage 3 (age 22)

- I think I have some form of neuropathy as well but it hasn’t been diagnosed - but I have overly sensitive feet and legs. (age 18)
- Constant pain in my kidney area (also undiagnosed) (age 18)

Thanks in advance.

Em

It does seem a lot. Osteoporosis at 22 is not common. Im sure you doctor has looked into iit. Have you looked into vitamin K2? it directs calcium into the bones. Also, recent research has shown that chronic fatigue syndrome is a calcium transport problem and I wouldnt be surprised if fibro isnt somehow related in some way.

Slightly shorter list for me.

Diabetes T3e drug induced
Myasthenia Gravis.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm x2 fixed with stents.
Cervical Spondylosis since my 30's
Asthma.
Tinnitus
CKD
Peripheral Neuropathy
Did have Retinopathy but lowering BS seems to have got rid of that.

I am taking Adcal+D3 calcium supplements and K2 as long term steroid use apart from causing diabetes also can cause problems with bone density they could possibly help with your Osteoporosis.

Hi @Emma_Fisher, that is one big list? There may be some good news there though.
I have read that migraines can be related to gluten intake so on a GFD for long enough might help to reduce migraine frequency.
CD can also be the cause of osteoporosis so hopefully again a GFD have help you improve your bine mineral density.
If you have read Dr Bernstein's book The Diabetes Solution will note that with his diet and insulin regime he managed to reverse his kidney, neuropathy and gastroparesis problems. As gastroparesis is about automonic neuropathy maybe that could apply the postural hypotension in your case.
And, just as an observation, with T1D and diabetic complications,. bile acid problems, undiagnosed CD for ? how long, who would not have symptoms like fibromyalgia.
I hope things improve and please read Dr Bernstein's book !!

Hi thanks for your reply!
I’ve had coeliac Disease since I was 8 - so 14 (nearly 15) years and have had a completely gluten free diet ever since.
I started getting bad migraines about 6 or 7 years ago (roughly age 16) and then got diagnosed with fibromyalgia (due to a whole range of different symptoms - some of which aren’t symptoms of CD as far as I’m aware) about 3 years ago so don’t think it could be to do with the CD, considering I don’t eat any gluten, but who knows!!
But I’ll definitely look into the book you mentioned.
Thanks
