soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I have been searching through everything I can find on starch digestion, because I remember clearly from my "A" level biology days, learning that we cannot digest raw starch. AND doing those demonstrations with Amylase, which only work if you cook the starch first.
Yesterday, I was acting as back Walk Leader for a group and having said that I've lost 16 kg by eating low carb, I was a bit upset by a woman who looked me up and down and said she's never been heavy enough to be able to lose 16Kg ( I wish I had her mirror and bathroom scales !!). She also insisted that we've eaten grains since our hunter/gatherer days; which I KNEW to be wrong. Anyway I was searching again and came up upon the following article( all properly referenced)
http://www.beyondveg.com/cordain-l/grains-leg/grains-legumes-1a.shtml
It confirms my memories from school 40 years ago. I was a good student, but got married instead of going for a Ph.D

Hi hanadr,

This is all good stuff. If you get a chance to pick up a copy of Robert Ardrey's book 'The Hunting Hypothesis', it has a very good discussion on competing evolutionary hypotheses.
Apparently, dieticians evolved on an entirely seperate branch from the rest of us.

All the best,

I got a degree and then spent many years teaching and raising a family. I've got as much out of life as I put in, but still sometimes regret that PhD. Maybe I'll do it yet. pensioners have been known to do things like that. How do I fund it?

Sorry can't save on whole grains. Haven't eaten any for at least a year, eat fresh veggies instead.
Pension isn't huge either.

In the olden days, my Dad & his friends bought old cars (pre-war Austin 7s) & ran them on tobacco.

After a very short time smoking started again

hi IanD !
I'm old enough to remember tobacco being grown at home.
