Hi, just been to my doctor....hes very pleased that i've lost18lbs since my last visit in feb this year! Got the flu jab ,took a urine sample for testing, when i started to ask about test strips for my accu-chek nanno meter, he said no we do not do those on prescription,i tried to explain about the " nice guidelines" and he said thats only for type 1 who are on insulin! .
Anyway i politely thanked him and departed, i visited my chemist and asked how much a drum of 50 test strips were, and he said £ 23.00 he said you can get these from your doctor on prescription! Itold him that my doctor had just said noto that, and he said , we will try one of the other doctors in the same clinic who do prescribe the strips for type2 diabetics!
So i'll let you know what happens tomorrow,

a lot use the codefree meter
SD codefree meter
http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm
if you buy extra boxes of strips there is a discount code
5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833

Yes, i' getting a codefree meter today , thanks again for the pointers ,

I use the Codefree too, and since I don't take any diabetes medication, I don't get free prescriptions.
But I don't mind.
If I got test strips on prescription, it would actually cost me more than buying the Codefree strips! (Depending on how many I use, of course).

Mad, but true. :)

What a privelidge to be a part of this forum thanks all together we will get "there"

Can I just ask whether the Posters here see lower carb eating as a diet or as a lifestyle?

I just see my choice of eating lesser carbs for 50+ years as my choice of lifestyle with foods.

Eg.. Eskimo's eat mainly fish etc.. This if their lifestyle of eating due to the living circumstances. I was alway brought up with lower carbs so just see it as a lifestyle.

The terms of people being so successful as lowering their carbs but calling it a diet really concerns me whether people actually see it as a diet that will end or as a chosen lifestyle....

I congratulate you all. Its great to read others success stories. Ut just intrigues me whether others see a "diet" or "lifestyle" as the same thing. I still judge diets as a way of eating that will end..

I don't really worry about it. :joyful: However, if I had to choose I'd call it a diet. Why? Not being on a diet means you eat whatever you feel like eating without really thinking about what exactly you are eating. Since I very consciously decide exactly what to eat and how it will impact my health in both short-term and long-term, I call that a diet. There's lots of foods that I would enjoy eating, but I don't because I'm on a diet. I can't really call it a "lifestyle" since it's there's no way I'll be eating exactly the way I do now the rest of my life. Heck, I just adjusted my diet this weekend. :hungry:

Hi,

That's interesting.

I've been eating progressively lower carb for about 30 years now - each downward step dictated by my body's progressive decrease in carb tolerance.

I always call 'a way of eating' as a 'diet', because we all eat some sort of diet, whether we are vegetarian, omnivorous, macrobiotic, Standard American/English Diet (God help us), or something else.

I definitely don't automatically associate 'diet' with weight loss, or short term.

And I always associate 'lifestyle' with a lot more than food. Exercise, philosophical ideals, practical necessities like climate, town or country residence...

To my mind, describing someone as 'eating a raw food diet', is a very different thing from describing someone 'living a raw food lifestyle'. The former is what they put in their mouth. The latter is a much wider image encompassing sandals, bicycles, endless Tupperware pots and trips to organic farm shops.

Apologies to any Raw Food Lifestylers out there. I clearly don't know what I'm talking about. ;)
