There are a lot of posts debating whether high carb/ low fat /low carb high fat diets or even medium carb diets are best. I'm sure a lot has to do with individual metabolism, weight, age and gender, whether they have insulin resistance, whether they use insulin etc. In the various theads people give some idea of what they eat but I thought it would be interesting to see them together. what is your typical days diet ? Do you think its working. ? I'll kick off and include BS levels.(but you don't have to!
Please join in I don't want my days diet to sit here by itself!
I'm a 56 year old female, fairly active. Type 1, I recently changed from MDI to a pump.
Yesterday, an average day (no extra exercise) food shopping and a local village ceremony with a lot of standing around pm. BS a little low probably reflecting exercise the day before.
Fasting BS 84 (4.6mmol)
porridge 38carbs
2hour BS 102 (5.6mmol)
pre lunch BS 61 (3.3mmol)
sourdough multi cereal bread
low fat cammebert about 40gm
huge mixed salad, vinaigrette dressing
2 kiwi fruit
50 carbs
pre dinner (before cooking ) BS 60 (3.3 mmol)
a few cheese straws whilst cooking 'cos BS a little low (didn't count them in carbs for bolus)
(mentioned doing that to doctor, she doesn't approve... too high fat)
fish/herb pesto
asparagus
broccoli
new potatoes
strawberry/peach fruit salad with a bit of 'squirty' cream.
2 bits 76% chocolate (never count this in my total carbs)
red wine ( a couple of glasses)
60 carbs
(total carbs 148 +)
3 hours after dinner 80 (4.4mmol)
This morning 84(4.6mmol)
Breakfast 38gm carb reduced bolus insulin to try to make BS higher for run.
also cut basal to .1 unit an hour for 2.5 hours.
2 hour 145 (8mmol)
5 mile run (after 30min 74,(4.1mmol) 1dextrose : 4 carbs)
pre lunch 51 (2.8mmol) ( a bit low so should have had another dextrose)
Incidently my monitor, like some in the UK (and unlike the US) measures whole blood so a reading of 60 (3.3mmol) is actually about 67 as a plasma figure so not quite as low as it sounds. I'm convincing myself if not my doctor!
