The wife (yes I know the wife again! ) has naturally eaten a diet very like the LCHF almost all her life, and is also a veggie.. Our doctor thinks she should be very ill due to her eating like this .. But he can find nothing wrong with her .. She takes no med's or supplements. So to find out the LCHF diet was right for me was intresting to say the least ...
Has your OH changed their eating habits to fit in with your diabites ?

Well, yes and no.
We eat much the same stuff generally on a mainly LCHF diet, but this evening she is eating croutons and pate.
I will probably have the pate without the croutons.

We keep most carbs out of the house because I am so weak.....

I Lov carbs ....... The OH never has so, it's so hard not eating them ...but on the plus side sometimes I eat more carbs than the wife ..

No we just eat the same meals, based around a Mediterranean diet wherever possible.

Eventually I became the "feeder" in our 20 yr marriage.. And now he follows my eating, which has always been lower carbs... Now he doesn't stuff his face constantly and has lost 4at and kept it off. He keeps to lower carbs.
The only exception was recently when I had an overnightstay elsewhere... And he automatically shifted back to a huge carb laden pizza....
That, I admit I don't understand. It actually makes me think he would just stuff his face with carbs if I'm not around.... Then I think, well if I'm not around (i.e dead) then what the hell do I care-I won't be here!!
He knows how to lose weight, how to keep it off.. But I seem to be the "mother" figure of keeping him on the straight snd narrow so to speak. I don't like that.
All his friends are trying to get weight loss like OH, but they are just blind to what carbs n fat etc are. So he does take pride in himself when with them, but when he without any company at all he just can't stop the carbs.
Me, I just don't eat when by myself, iI literally force feed myself practically because I know I have to wat something....so two totally different angles...and both hard to tackle..

Hi, I don't have an OH, but hopefully, one day, I would like to answer this question

Hi Enclave

My type 1 hubbie (diagnosed earlier this year) has had to reduce his carbs in order to gain better control of his BS. In doing so I have also started to eat less carbs but because he is also eating full fat everything, I am not really losing weight. Mind you its probably more to do with the sneaky bar of milk chocolate I demolish at work a few times a week cos I don't want to sit with milk chocolate in front of him at home!. Since his diagnosis our diet is definitely healthier so it's not all bad and some of the recipes on here are really tasty.

The full fat bit is the part that I think helps you loose weight, as your body is not needing to store fat .. The wife weight is ok she would like to be slimmer, I have lost 4 stone since the start of the year ! ..... I miss chocolate .. The wife cannot eat it .. Gives her a migraine and odd as it may sound makes her face puff up .. She will look like a spitting image puppet .. But please don't let her know I said that !

Wow..congrats on the weight loss Enclave. I wish I couldn't eat chocolate! I buy the 85% dark one for my hubbie now and that can last him quite some time then I buy the milk for me, to get the 2 for £2 deal you understand, and it lasts about an hour!!!.

well I have told her ..strange that puffy face thing ....an awful allergic reaction to something in the chocolate ....

We eat more or less the same at home except Mrs DeeJayR has spuds and pasta now and again before she goes kayaking, and makes sandwiches with granary bread, but she actually prefers cauliflower-base pizza to the bread base. In her shop she keeps a supply of Mars bars, Snickers, choc biscuits & fruit. She is gradually demolishing the 3 jars of jam we have left from about a million years ago, or so it seems.

we eat the same if it is veggie ..we share the cooking....
If Mr Tom (kat) chooses to eat meat ...then he cooks it ....

We had a curry day today...cooked by Mr tom ....I had lentils in coconut sauce ..with white radish called mooli with cabbage cooked in spices and coconut ...we have enough left for tomorrow as well , unless I freeze it ....

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo you would tell her ..... Would you .... She has a few food intolerances that cause this puffey face thing .. It looks mad .. Her mouth is so swolen she cannot talk for a while ... Some times it her eyes that are too puffed out to open ... I do worry that her air ways will be blocked, but so far she can recover ok .. It's mostlet carbs or sugar things that cause it ... So I used to eat all that for her

Ooooooo I support your wife and feel, sorry for her ...I get that puffy face thing ...and other symptoms ...it is really scary ...
Strangely and I hardly ever ate chocolate the millk variety always caused the reaction you described , , but I have discovered thev70% does not cause this ...
Coke is another culprit along with other foods which make my throat muscles go into strange spasms ....not nice at all ...can't always pin point the ones that care going to cause the reaction though ...
Send her my best wishes she is not alone.......

I will thank, it good for me to know she is not alone .. Got her to try the higher coco chocolate a few years back .. Never again .. Tea will also cause the puffy thing ..

That's it, I never have tea ...and real milk will also cause reactions for me ....I have a list...your wife is really not alone , my husband gets worried as well , it is not nice ...i do take a drug to relax this swallowing muscles....if the attack gets bad ....
Coffee, I love coffee ,,but I can only do non white de caffe ....

Many years ago she had a musel relaxant tablet, but she will not do Drs now so has no more of them... Advcrdos and bananas will also do the puffy thing ... Red wine .. Never seen her have milk in anything, but she can eat a small amount of cheese.. Life's a funny thing

Edit to add.. Also nuts cause a mega reaction !

Mr B cycles through low carbs (losing weight) and inhaling carbs (cravings, addiction and some weight gain).

He is wonderful in supporting my low carbing, but once he enters the carb eating part of the cycle, he is well out of control.

We've discussed it and both agree that while I have a healthy jolt of fear at the BG rise carbs cause me, he has no such reaction. The highest I have ever measured his BG is at 7mmol/l after half a ton of cheeselets and 200g of rum n raisin fudge. So, for the moment, he has insufficient motivation to keep to any special diet.

He has, however, heroically stopped all chocolate (6+ years) due to Dairy Milk addiction, and is now 18 months from tasting coffee (it was raising his blood pressure).

So, where he has motivation, he is indomitable.

This evening was a peanut butter and jam granary sandwich. If I had been cooking, he would have eaten LC with me.
