I had a glucose test about 4-5 years ago. Fasting 7.1. I was told that I was glucose intolerant. Watch what you eat and exercise. Absolutely no follow up or further advise. Had to ask the GP to perform tests on me just before Christmas as I felt doom and gloomy. He noticed I had not had a glucose test for a while so I had one scheduled. Got a call to come in to see diabetes nurse - was told over phone that the reading was 8.3 . Did a fair bit of research prior to appointment and worked out for myself that I was now Type 2. Was told that I was to be treated with diet and exercise. Asked her for meter and strips but was told that NHS only hands em out to diabetics that require medication. So bought my own, meter and am now watching what foods send my sugar levels high and now exercising again. Guess I should have done the research 4-5 years ago. I am miffed with the lack of NHS support I got 4 years ago and what I'm getting now.
My son keeps saying "I can't believe your a diabetic" .... Neither can I. Hey Ho ... onwards and upwards. There are folks on this Forum that make me feel fortunate.
