Hi everyone

I have been in soluble metformin hydrochloride (Glucophage) for the last 10 years but recently I haven't been able to get it. I am unable to swallow tablets so cannot get tablets. Has anyone else had problems getting this? I have been told the company who made it doesn't make it anymore. Does anyone know if there is another soluble alternative?

Thank you in advance. :)

Hi my husband takes liquid metformin although we had trouble getting it on prescription because of the cost . I had to push for him to get it as he now has a problem swallowing pills .

Just an 'out of the box' thought - as the standard Metformin tablets aren't coated, might you be able to crush them and mix with some yoghurt, or cream cheese etc to become easier to swallow?

You'd need a pestle & mortar, or a clean 'hammer' as they're quite hard to bash into bits, I would imagine. ;)

[Edit] I've just tried crushing a Metformin 500 mgs tablet with a Garlic press!!! ;) It actually worked well, I have to say. I'll take it after my tea, mixed with some Philladelphia cream cheese, rather than waste it ;) LOL
