1) I have read recently (dont know who wrote it and this is not a quote) that the Fasting Blood levels are harder to bring down then the before and after food ones!!
I am asking because my morning one are still a little higher, at times/very often morning fasting one is higher then the night before. Is this because of "liver dump" of sugar?

I have only been diagnosed since early April 18 with a steady decrease of blood sugar readings, with all readings (before and after meals) ahem including some mistakes along the way. Over the weeks my sugar level very often creep into the green normal range. I am loosely following Low carb/Mediterranean way of eating.

2) Insulin resistance anyone got a basic answer.

Ps Many thanks to all on this forum as I have obtained a load of recipes/information/understanding on ways to make this work for me.

best wishes

Do you check your fasting before getting out of bed or before breakfast? Might make a huge difference. Many people find their bg shoots up as soon as they start moving about. I'm not sure what to do about it though, as I'm on insulin, but I seem to remember some people eat a small bite upon getting up to stop their liver from producing too much glucose. Not exactly sure, though.

I agree with @Antje77. I test my fasting level as soon as I wake up, even a year from diagnosis it’s always slightly higher than my going to bed reading. The difference is less than at the beginning though. I always then go and eat breakfast straight away, showering and dressing waits til after I’ve eaten. As recently as Feb. I tested what happens if I don’t eat straight away, on the morning of my blood tests when I was fasting. My level just crept up and up til I ate. I also eat a low carb fatty snack before I go to sleep too, usually 30g nuts, that is supposed to help fasting levels too.
Many of us have written that the fasting reading is the last to settle down because that’s exactly what we’ve found, me included!

I test around 6 am upon waking (dogs want out,) have breakfast around 8 am. To be honest before breakfast is up a little then 2 hours after breakfast it is way down. Many thanks it is going to take me a while to learn how my body is reacting but I am not going to worry at the moment.

Hi @NannyP 2 I'm same as @Antje77 and @Rachox I test fist thing. I'm on 18/6 fasting as well as LCHF. I test after 12hour fasting when I get up then test at 18hours before I eat. I've just started to do this because of "Liver dump" in a morning to see what the difference is Last four days readings have been 9.8 - 6.9. 8.1 - 7.0. 8.6 - 8.6 and 4.5 - 5.1. I only have a black tea and vitamin water as needed and take dog out for a walk as exercise. I'm very pleased with the progress so far as BG was 16.6 two weeks ago when I started.
