Apparently though insulin has weight gaining properties my daughters diabetic doctor told us.
Yes, but that can be good. Insulin does assist with fat storage. We need some fat storage. Insulin is also used to carry amino acids into muscle for repair and building more muscle. So without enough insulin, you waste away and die, which is what used to happen to Type 1s before insulin was discovered. If you are eating carbs and protein without enough insulin, you excrete the end results of their digestion in your urine - you pee away glucose, in other words. At the same time, the elevated blood sugar is damaging your body. So if you increase your insulin, you stop peeing it away and start storing it. Whether as muscle or as fat depends on how well you balance diet, activity and insulin.
