Hello!

so I’ve been feeling unwell for about a month or so, headaches like sinuses , very tired, high sugars ( they’ve gone from averaging 7-9, to 8-12) needing to wee a lot and thirsty! I take 4 sukkarto a day 2 in the morning snd 2 in the evening. I have been stressed and my sleep is horrendous due to my little ones waking a lot in the night. Sleep isn’t a option as my husband is a police officer so a lot of the time I deal alone with it. My diabetic nurse is aware I emailed her saying I felt rubbish etc, and I test my sugars each day and it goes into my diabetes M app which she can see. She is querying whether I may be type 1, as I was diagnosed fairly young 29/30, in my 1st pregnancy. I’m now 35. I eat as low carb as possible and don’t snack or on the odd occasion I will have some chocolate and try to have at least 70%, I rarely drink alcohol. But the tiniest carb can spike me and I’ve been told I have very very stubborn sugars.

I weigh 75kg and I’m 5’2.

please help me ☹️☹️☹️

Hi @KirstyRobbie
With your head ache/sinus is it possible that you have some sort of infection/virus, that could certainly cause higher levels.
You mentioned your average levels have risen but how are your before and after meal tests ?
If you could share share your meals with us someone may spot something that could be causing you problems.
Sukkarto ( metformin ) helps a little with insulin resistance and cuts down the amount of glucose your liver dumps into your blood but it won't stop the carbs in food from ending up in your blood, it just doesn't work like that. So if you really can't cut any more carbs from your diet maybe you need stronger medication

I have either Greek yogurt with a small portion of berries or bacon egg mushrooms etc, very occasionally toast.

lunch soups, Greek salads, 1 pitta with salads etc.

tea , roasts with veg , pasta with more sauce ten pasta, curries, stir fries.

J tend to save my carby and by that I mean small amount to the evening meal as I am constantly on the go al the time abs to be honest sometimes I am very very hungry by that time of the day.

I have tried the intermittent fasting but with my kids waking every couple fo hours and then bend up for the day by 5/5:30am I simply cannot wait until 11/12pm to eat as I don’t get to rest and I really am hungry.

My morning sugars are always my highest of the day, even when I had insulin when pregnant in 2015&2018 they was never lower then 7??

Quite a few carbs in there toast, pitta, pasta, is the yoghurt plain full fat ? (The flavored low fat stuff can be carby) is the soup home made ? Again the tinned/packet stuff usually have added sugar and thickeners. also it doesn't seem like you are having much fat in your diet, could be why you are finding intermittent fasting difficult and getting hungry.
What are your levels like before and after things like pitta & bread, pasta, I know mine would get uncomfortably high if I ate them.

Hi, I would describe my sugars as stubborn lol, I went very low carb from T2 diagnosis, I believe doing this is amazing but can maybe hide our true symptoms, in my case at least.

At the end of the day, the only person who can diagnose a different type is your doctor, I would suggest speak to them, ask for GAD and C-Peptide, you may need to be very persuasive.

It took years of rubbish numbers and 100 combinations of medications for me to arrive at what I am assuming to be now my correct path, I hope you find an easier route, sorry for not being more helpful, best wishes.

Hello,

yes everything is unprocessed or full fat, j only use really butter, full fat cheeses feta etc, only occasional processed meat as such would be sausages or fish with breadcrumbs. As I said if I have a pitta then that would be my only carb of the day, I wouldn’t have it the same day as having rice or pasta for example.

In that case if I were you i would be pestering the Dr for further tests, as Fenn pointed out misdiagnosis is not unheard of

What is it I should be asking for? I dread abs hate confrontation, but I just really am at a loose end with my sugars, one minute they are good the next they go high like this, I know partly it is stress and sleep but surely it can’t just be the reason why?

You're right lack of sleep and stress will cause higher levels but I would be asking for the c peptide test. I would want to know how much insulin my pancreas was producing. If your insulin production is ok then you might need something stronger than metformin and maybe a little help with the stress/ lack of sleep. If not then maybe they have got it wrong and you do have a different flavour of diabetes

Hello @KirstyRobbie

I was diagnosed with gestational at 23 weeks and went straight onto insulin, however it went as soon as daughter appeared and then came back as sudden onset type 1 about 4 years later, when I say sudden it was gradually feeling worse and worse then one week it came on very quickly with weight loss, drinking loads, peeing loads, dry hands, couldn't talk as mouth very dry, constant tiredness, so a trip to the GP ended me up in hospital. I would never of thought of type 1 in the weeks leading up to the diagnosis though as symptoms just became gradually worse and worse. It's worth seeing your GP as they can do either a GAD or C Peptide test to confirm a diagnosis.

Hello @KirstyRobbie
See my only symptom I don’t have is weight loss, just excessively thirsty, feeling irritable and groggy, and sugars spike very very easily. This morning I woke with sugars of 10.4, I had 1 fried egg in butter with 1 piece of live life low carb bread, at about 7.30am, by 9:30 after the school run and my 2 sukkartos my sugars were down to 5.1, the lowest I’ve had in about 5/6 weeks and it left me feeling incredibly weak.
