When you are first diagnosed and go on medication you sometimes kick start your pancreas to use its remaining cells to make some insulin. This is called honeymoon period and insulin requirements can drop significantly. I have heard of people being able to stop medication during this time, but they ARE still diabetic and you need to monitor and watch whats happening to be ready to start upping/taking insulin when that changes.
Even if you are type 2 you would still need to modify diet strictly to avoid the need for meds, and lots of Type 2s are on diet so it can be done. Some however are on medication, including insulin.
When you say you've not had any, was this with supervision from your medical team. Are you sugars staying mainly between 4-7 all the time, even after eating? Can you tolerate sugar? Or are you following a good diet?
If this continues and they dont think its honeymoon period then they would of course need to investigate further. You cant get to a sugar of 40 without something serious happening in your body to cause this in the first place
It would be lovely to say you dont have diabetes, but Im sorry to be harsh and say you shouldnt rule it out for ever Im afraid.
Let us know how you get on
