I've been on Gliclazide for the last 2 weeks. My numbers are great between 6 and 7 at all times, and sometimes down to 5.5.

I couldn't be happier...

My problem is this - I've kinda fell off the lo-carb band wagon. It's hard to get lo-carb lunches at work, so I've been dining on a tuna sandwich (brown bread) a bag of crisps, and (gasp) a Boost bar every lunch time.

I'll eat at around 12, then measure my blood at around 5pm - it's never above 6.

I'm almost afraid to stop eating like I am because my numbers are so good.

I suppose this is a Gliclazide question - will eating like this force the Gliclazide to force my pancrease to produce more insulin? Will my beta cells eventually burn out/die and stop the Gliclazide working?

Certainly Gliclazide does"boost" your beta cells. As to burn-out
there is some doubt as to whether this actually really happens. I dropped Gliclazide because I couldn't lose weight on it.

I've always worried that poor control (leading to high BG) would lead to reduction, and maybe one day, complete disappearance of, Beta Cells. Is that not the case? Could it be that I will always have Beta Cells, and that Gliclizide will make them more effective at producing insulin?

Must be honest though - the thought of not being able to lose weight, or even putting weight on, frightens the life out of me. Getting my BG down using Gliclazide has motivated me to join a Gym. If the Gliclazide stops the exercise from being an effective way of losing weight, I'll have to decide if i want to be a fatty with low BG, or a healthy person with high(er) BG. (Because I'll probably cut out the Gliclazide and continue with the Gym).

Problem is - I've joined the Gym before, and lost weight - butthe weight lossdidn't really help with the BG.

Life as a T2 sucks.

My weight bothers me more than T2, that I can control. Weight doesn't want to budge. I have to keep reminding myself I have already lost over 2 stone, albeit a year ago.
