Good afternoon all.

Sorry to ask the following but i am new to this.

What on earth is hbac 1 or whatever it is please ?

Thank you

Hi Grizzly, its a blood test. Diabetics and pre-diabetics are given this blood test to determine the level of glucose in the blood stream over the past 3 months. Some doctors only do this test once a year, my surgery is currently allowing me to have one every 3 months. As we are all tested in the same way it gives us all a benchmark to compare how we are doing.

Ah, great, thank you for the links.

Ok, is this where i take a reading on this machine of mine, prick my finger and get blood and
then i have a reading ?

thank you both, sorry to pester with the questions

Welcome to the forum Andy. Don't ever feel a question is silly, it's by asking questions we all learn. No question is ever silly, as it's something important to the person asking. :D

The finger prick test we all do ourselves, is a measure of what's happening at the time we take it, so we have an idea of what foods/exercise etc do to us. The HbA1c as Fraddy has said, is done at your surgery and is believed to be much more accurate. Most of us look forward to the HbA1c as it shows if what we have been doing the last three months is working.

All the things I am now passing on to you, are things I learned here too. It's a great place, and believe me, in a short time, you will be the one handing out advice.

Jo

lol, at this rate Jo, yes, i will be giving advice.

But i have so much to learn about this. I'm on my last brain cell here ! lol

andy

Hi again Grizzly, I totally agree with Jo, i spend more time on this forum than on Facebook by a way. Its great to be able to talk to likeminded people going through the same thing as I am. I joined in July, and now I am dishing out advice, but there is always new stuff to learn! Keep asking! Jane
