Right so an update
Around 7 weeks taking Gliclizide my sugars have reduced a fair bit (but hip hurray) today had the specialist appointment and to be honest I do feel a little better and aprehensive at the same time, so to summarise
- He took family history of diabetes (he is surprised that it comes from the anglo-saxon side more (I am mixed race asian) )
- He asked how I feel now 12 months from initial confirmation of diagnosis and tablets, which most of the symptoms have reduced.
- My HBA1c is still 9.6 , he said I am young and Gliclizide is not a long term treatment.
- So I am still on the Metformin 500mg x 2 twice a day, Omeprazole x 2 twice a day and to add a statin, but remove Glic
- Also to start injecting once a day with Victoza (waiting diabetic nurse appointment)
- Review in 4 months to see what effect that is having on me, if no effect back on the Gliclizide whilst we go to next option
- He does not want to jump straight to MODY testing as it is expensive, and definately not to insulin which may end up been a last resort.
- He did ask when we were thinking about children as this does play a part in treatment to as Glic and Victoza can't be taken when pregnant
I knew I was not going to get total answers to anything today, but at least its a step in the right direction and closer to getting a diagnosis on how to treat and get me back to feeling 100%
