Hi @GR51 - The standard Metformin is suited to a lot of people, but there are those who do suffer with stomach problems and some suffer with Diarrhoea. If? this should happen to be the case with You, don't suffer with it, just go back to see your Diabetes Nurse or GP and ask for the Slow Release Metformin which is much kinder on the Stomach and Bowels.
Having a Blood Glucose Meter is a vital part of a Diabetics Kit. These meters are no longer issued to everyone nowadays unless on Insulin and Gliclazide. I get 100 Free Strips because I use Insulin and also take Metformin daily. Click on the link that @Hiitsme has posted, the SD Codefree Meter is popular with some Forum Members and the Test Strips are the cheapest to buy.
And did you know that when you are on medication for Diabetes your prescriptions are Free. Ask your Diabetes Nurse to fill out the form to apply for a Exemption Card. (Ask for receipt from the Chemist if you have paid to reclaim the amount) Or if you are by any chance over 60 years then you won't need to apply for the card.- prescriptions are free to over 60's.
Remember, if in doubt or not sure about something - Just ask/post a question.
