I had a slice of bread for my breakfast every morning.

Before breakfast at 4.6, after
1 hour 6.4, after 2 hour it was 6.8 but came down to 5.4 after 3 hour.

Is this a spike? If it is I don't know what I can eat for breakfast already.

My dietician told me to eat 2 slices of bread with milk. But I think that is too much Carb for me.

A little spike, yes, but not one you need to worry about - all numbers well below 7...

Hi jack412,

I would like to add some other things to my breakfast but when I see this spike I am abit worried.

Hi jack412,

the fasting under 5 and under 7 @ 2hr is perfect, the 3 hr is a little high and back under 5 would be better
carbs spike..protein and fats as good as don't..so I would just have one slice of bread and chuck a couple of eggs [fat's / protein] and tomato on it.
the warning on cholesterol in eggs has been withdrawn.

Sometimes when I had dinner, the numbers will remain the same for 3 hours.

Before dinner it was 4.6. After dinner all the 3 hours it was 5.1. Is it ok? Because it remained the same.

Once I ate dinner with some cookies. Before dinner it was 4.8. 1 hour it spiked to 9, 2 hour 7.2 and 3 hour 5.4. Is it ok?

Cookies is your clue ....... You tested after eating them. Stay away. All else looks good.

You numbers look good @Evelyn1
I would add even the cookie ones if you haven't been eating much carbohydrate recently before you had them. Just don't make too much of a habit of them until you are confident and understand your bodies reaction to foods. Do not worry too much about raised 3 hour levels as I find that a meal with a fair amount of fat causes a delay in BG levels by anything from 30 to 90 minutes and additionally to this I find that when I eat a lot of protein I get an elevated and consistent (about 5.5mmol/l) level for hours.

My numbers are usually below 5 between 4.4 to 4.9 before meal but sometimes even without cookies or carbs. It will raised to 6.0 to 6.8 after 2 hours. Is it ok too?

They are pretty good numbers IMO. Try some cheese (lieu of cookies) test, and see what that does... thus far, it looks very good. Staying below 7.8 (at one hour) is the general target.....

I have never eaten cheese for a long time. Maybe I should try some. I miss the carbs and sweet things very much.

Today I had my lunch. Some carbs eggs, chicken, vegetables and fruits. 1 hour was 8.8, 2 hour was 6.6 and 3 hour was 5.6. Is the spike very high?

Our rule is:
Preferably 5.0 or under before a meal.
7.0 or under one hour after starting a meal
6.0 or under two hours after starting a meal.

An ideal meal would be back to starting point by two hours.

We do our very best to avoid meals (or to be more exact, items within meals), which cause these rules to be broken. The benefit has been truly normal HbA1c's in the very low 30's and reversal of retinopathy.

Hi Sally and James,

Usually before meal it is between below 5.0. If I have one meal before meal is 4.6 after 1 hours it is 5.5 and 2 hours is still 5.5. It did not drop . Is it ideal?

But the numbers are not always the same. But before meal is always the same below 5.0. After meal 1 and 2 hours sometimes it goes up to 6 plus but always below 7. Unless I eat more carbs.

Life's like that - variable. It's what makes it all so fascinating.

I had some Chinese wraps and vegetables for dinner. Before dinner it was 4.8 , 1 hour after it was 8.4, 2 hour it was 7.4 and 3 hour 5.4. Is the spike too much?
