Hi

The rice ..... a "no no" for many at least IMO. Bad news

I wouldnt be worried about that at all. In fact I would be doing a very happy dance.

Usually a spike of 2 or less in two hours is OK but, as it's rice which is quite carby, I should test when you have it again so that you can be confident that the lowish spike was not just a one off.

since last nov, I have stopped eating rice noodles, except bread in the morning. Because I don't have much choices for breakfast. And also sometimes I had no time to make my own lunch so I had to eat out with my colleauges. I had test before the reading is about the same. 1 hour usually will be above 7. 3 hour it will drop to 5.8-5.5. Thanks Daphne

Hello again, nice to hear from you. Your bs numbers are reasonable by anyone's standards and VERY good considering your limited choice of food and time to prepare it. Well done. Keep experimenting and I'm sure you'll work something out.

Thanks Deejayr. :) I will keep experimenting. But i have not eaten noodles, cakes, chocolates since last nov. I missed them so much. :( I tried 85% dark chocolate but couldn't take the bitter taste. I have seen some breakfast choices like bacon ,scrambled eggs, cheese for breakfast , but I have no time to prepare it. My breakfast is usually only 1 slice of wholemeal bread but recently I had added peanut butter to it. :) but the readings is not very good. For today, Before breakfast was 4.8, 1 hour was 6.0, 2 hour was 7.3. Sometimes 1 hour was 7.0 2 hour About 6.0 and 3 hour about 5.5-5.8. My fasting bs is usually in the range of 4.5-5.0.

If you have no time to prepare a breakfast in the morning, then it would be good to prepare beforehand. You could try any of the following, just off the top of my head:

Hard boiled eggs
Cooked bacon
Cooked sausages
Cheese
Combo of the foregoing
Crustless quiche
Frittata
Unsweetened Greek Yoghurt
Unsweetened Greek Yoghurt, with a few berries
9Bar
Handful of nuts
Sardines or other canned fish

There are so many no-prepare on the day options, but you do have to think ahead a little. Things like the bacon, sausages, cheese, crustless quiche can be made a few days in advance, or enough for a few days. Many on here prepare a week worth of brekkies before the week starts, to ease time pressures.

@Evelyn1

I'd be quite happy with your figures, but I'd agree about watching the rice! You may like to look at this table and information regarding recommended targets, to keep things in perspective for you:

As a possible alternative to your breakfast bread, you could try a one minute muffin/muffin in a mug (look in our low carb recipes section or try Google for recipes). They're quick and easy to make, you can add various sweet or savoury things to them to vary the flavours, cocoa powder or blueberries for sweet, and courgettes, cheese, walnuts, etc for savoury. You could make a few to keep in the fridge for a quick and easy breakfast. I multiply up the quantities and bake in large muffin cases to make me enough for a week, and eat them with various meals instead of bread/cake. Almond and coconut flour are your friends if you like the occasional cake, and I find the sweet versions of these muffins are a great alternative. :)

Hi Andbreathe, I have saw in other threads about the 9bar but I think the place I am living in do not have it. Besides no time to prepare, actually after I was diagnosed, I was depress most of the time. I did not feel like doing anything. :( what type of cheese and bacon do you eat? I usually eat nuts for snacks after dinner. Tried Greek yogurt trice before but I couldn't take the taste. :(

Hi Robbity, yes I like cakes. I saw some recipes for muffin and cakes too. I am worried if I can take the carbs so I didnt try it. My breakfast for the past few months was only bread.

9bars are sold in Tesco and ASDA, as well as Holland & Barratt, so you may be able to get hold of them.

I eat whatever bacon and cheese I fancy, but if I was going to prepare bacon ahead, I might prefer to grill streaky bacon, pretty crispy. M&S, Waitrose and some other supermarkets do pre-cooked streaky bacon, in a sealed pack, which is useful to grab and run. They usually have quite a long use by date, so can be kept at home, in the fridge, for a while.

Thanks Andbreathe. The place i am livining in dont have 9bar :( there are some other fruit bars but alot of carbs.

Hi test my breakfast today for 1 Slice of bread with peanut butter. Before breakfast was 5.1, 1 hour 8.8 2 hour 6.4. Is ok to continue with the bread?

Sorry, that's quite a big jump and 8.8 is more than I would be comfortable with, and after 2 hours I would want my bs to be back to normal. If it was me I'd stop eating bread unless it's a small loaf of low-carb. It seems to be difficult for you to find alternatives but keep looking. Can you make substitutes like almond flour cheese bread? Can you eat/get eggs?

*edit* This is corrected below... apologies

Hi Deejayr, I'm T1 on mixed insulin and was told that an increase of 2mmol 2 hours after a meal was acceptable. Evelyn1 had an increase of 1.3, isn't his ok?

Usually the 1 hour don't go that high. Today it is too high :( I can eat eggs but lunch I am already having eggs or chicken :( Not much choices for me. I didnt try out any recipes yet. What type of cheese do you usually eat?

I think that we are in danger of sending mixed messages to newbies. Whist I agree it would be ideal to have your BS the same both before and after eating for many, me included, it will not happen and a rise of 1.3 could be considered acceptable and quite good.
