Spikes plus???

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with type 1 in Aug this year, on insulin now. I keep reading about spikes but haven't found a clear definition. I know it's high BG and that's to be avoided but that's it. Anyone help on this please?
The diabetic specialist nurse keeps asking me if I've had any hypos. Well my BG has dropped on a couple of occasions to 2.9 but I've never felt "odd". Can anyone tell me what I should expect please?

Spikes are where your blood sugar levels go up v steeply to above the range you're working to.
If you drop to below 3.9 that is a hypo and if you're not feeling any symptoms even at 2.9 then you need to let your nurse know as not feeling hypo signals can be dangerous.

What is an acceptable spike for one person may not be for another. If you are newly diagnosed then it's a case of trying to do better (on average) than yesterday/last week & gradually improving. I try to stay below 10 preferably below 9, but don't always manage it..
A CGM or Libre helps enormously as you can see what is actually happening.

As @Books1 says you need to talk to your nurse about not recognising a low. A CGM would sound an alarm if you were that low.

hi sue you need to speak to your dn about your lows because it sounds like you have no hypo awareness and thats not good and as said above spikes are where your bgs go up quite high after eating hope you get them lows sorted pretty quickly .let us know how you get on
