Spiking Post Meal

So that says "7D" at the top. I'm guessing it comes from a CGM. Then it says Range: 91% IN, 6% High, 2% Low. Doesn't define what's "In, "high" what's "low". Sounds like you're under good control. Are you getting low much? What are your REAL A1C's? Good like mine? Heck I went years without doing one. Then I did one with a fingerstick kit and it was the same as it always was. Who cares what the "docs" think? (I'm a doc). Sounds like you're under good control to me. Good job!

Last hospital a1c was 36. Which made docs convinced I must be hypo all the time. Which is why having the numbers and agp graph on the cgm will be useful to dissuade them of that notion.

Range is set from 4 to 8. Most of the highs have been slightly above 8, well below 10, most of the lows have been little slides to a totally manageable 3.5 or so which I've been getting "soft landings" on because the gadget's been telling me that I'm heading down, so I've already had a few grams to bring that up again and it's taken a bit longer for the glucose to catch up.

You're right in spotting the 7D, seven days! I've only been using it for about 6 weeks now. When I bring up the same screen for 30 days, I'm getting 81/8/9, so that shows a bit of improvement over the last few weeks.

We've both been doing this for about 3 decades. I was a bit cynical about libre when it first came out - I thought, why bother, I'm doing fine with strips.

But I gave it a go, decided early on that it's giving me so many heads up on things I never knew about my T1 that I've not looked back.

Now that your FDA has approved it, go on, give it a try, you know you want to!

In the US the Dexcom has been available for awhile, the Libre was approved recently. I have a friend here at the hospital whose 12 year old son is Type 1 and uses Dexcom. He likes it because it'll alarm him/them if he's headed low via his phone. I understand the Libre won't do that for some reason. To be honest I just don't want something else to mess with.

UPDATE if anyone's interested! I've been injecting about 20 minutes before my meals and for the most part it seems to be working. Lunch is fine because I always tend to eat the same thing anyway and I've not seen a post meal spike there.

I think I may have to consider injecting even earlier for breakfast because I'm still spiking slightly after that - again I always tend eat the same thing. And dinner has been also ok. I had pasta a couple of nights ago and spiked after that but was ok after my burger and chips last night.

I'm gonna keep this up and I'm taking note just to see if I can spot a pattern. On the Libre front, I am finding that it over-estimates my highs by about 3/4 mmol so I am reverting back to my finger prick when I go high (which for some reason seems to be a lot over the past week and I'm not sure why...) but it seems to be ok when I'm in range or low.

One thing I do to stop the morning rise is a) bolus 20 min before and then b) take another small bolus an hour or hour and a half later to stop the DP rise. Mornings are always the hardest. I contuniue to rise until after noon so that second bolus stops that until I get to lunch.
Also if I’m a tad higher than I like I wait longer to eat and if a tad lower I eat a little sooner but my insulin comes in around 20 min so that’s my starting point. I too eat the same bf and lunch. Different proteins at lunch but same macros.

And of course we’re interested!
