Hi ALl
I'm diabetic and was first diagnosed just over 20 years ago. I play football weekly, and I used to drink a glass of Lucozade before I played however it gave me an upset stomach, I then started having a mars bar but again I find this too much and I only start playing well in the latter stages as I feel with the running around I've not digested it.
Can you suggest alternatives to what I should have or what you do before taking part in sport?
Thanks

I don't do anything as energetic as playing football but will have a banana if I know my bg is going to drop when venturing out on foot or bike, I know some professional footballers eat bananas before playing but you could also use something like Jaffa Cakes that won't sit heavy on your stomach.

I don't know if you've seen this site before, it's for type 1's who partake in sport and has loads of useful information and advice:

Hi Thesugger,
Great that you have engaged yourself in regular physical activity to lead active lifestyle and as concern as upset stomach try fruits, vegetables, grains and low fat proteins. Better consult your doctor to avoid any kind of injury or discomfort in future.

Jelly Babies are ideal for boosting BG levels quickly. If you test before, after and during if possible you'll soon get the hang of how many to take.
